Hey dudes i was driving to go and pick up some tcases and my car threw itself sideways down a road i recovered it but it was like one wheel locked up for about a second. I pulled my rear housing apart and there is heaps of movement in the ring and pinion. I did the flange nut up tight and it was making the the bearing sound noise so i backed it off and it feels great. I'm down to an empty 3rd with just the pinion btw. So if i stick the ring in and it's still got a bit of slop can a very carefully adjust the backlash without a dial gauge? or is this a badass idea that will end in tears? I know that for every hole i go in i need to wind the opp hole out... can anyone tell me if my idea will work and would to much play result in the center growling and making it jump? It;s the first time it's happened so im a bit miffed...

The yoke to pinion has a crush tube in it, now that you`ve tightened it , may not last long, I have set backlash by feel before. diff didn`t last long but diff`s never do in my cars.
Make sure the planetary pin`s are`nt loose in the hemisphere, that will cause a lock up to.

the lash in most diffs is set by shims on the side of the carrier.

you can buy a paint to see if your pinon and crown wheel are meshing right and that helps set up the center but i'd take it to a shop, last center i got set up cost $50 and took 5 min.
