Hey guys bought what i thought was a g16b not long ago, the motor was fully rebuilt and my main concern at the time was to make sure all the work he claims to have done, was actually done. Anyway without thinking i bought the motor and its been sitting in my garage for a couple weeks and went to go start working on it and noticed the block said G16A.

I dont know much about these engines so started to panic thinking it wont fit in my sierra, so i jumped on here to do a bit of search see if there was much difference between the two. there wasn't much info on here hence my post.

So my question is, is there much difference between the two from a quick search all i can tell is that g16a is carby and g16b is efi. However the motor i have is efi. If im right does that mean he has just put a g16b head on a g16a block? and will this discovery effect my conversion into a sierra at all compared to a g16b?

I wouldnt be surprised if its a 16b with 16a written on it.

If its mpfi, 16valve and 1.6 its 1 g16b anyway.

Any train spotters on the difference in blocks? I've heard the 16a has different rods and pistons.

There's some people even claiming the g16a means iron block

G16a cast blocks can also be 16v spfi used in swifts sedans.
The head is essentially the same, but missing a few tapped holes for intake manifold and no relief for injector flow.
These will be stamped g16b etc.

If jimny or vitara g16b exhaust manifold bolts up then its got the correct head on and is g16b.
The only difference is an extra 2 notches in the pistons for the extra valves.
G16a exhaust manifold is same as g13 and shouldnt bolt up to a 16v head if that makes sense
