Need to bleed brakes so bought a bottle of Castrol Super Dot 4 Brake fluid then read the cover on the Fluid reservoir which says use only Dot 3 Fluid. What is the difference and can I use Dot 4 in my spook?

Too many dots in the other bottle & they will block up your brake lines............
besides that I'm not sure.

dot 3 and 4 are ok to mix but never use dot 5 in a dot 3 or 4 setup.

Dot 4 good!! its got a higher temp rating & is good, it will b fine.
i think you'll need to strain it through a milk create to make it dot 3 !

whats wrong with DOT 5?

I know some cars need specific fluid (Rolls Royce and 100 series) and you cant mix synthetic and mineral but thats irrelvent to DOT numbers

Bottle label says that it "meets and exceeds the industry requirements of both Dot 3 and Dot 4 specifications" and "suitable for use in vehicles requiring either Dot 3, Dot 4 or Dot 5.1 products."

Unfortunately in the second paragraph it says "Do not use where Dot 3 only fluids, mineral brake fluids and/or silicon brake fluids are recommended." I feel a little dotty. Suppose you should never read instructions.

i was mixing 3 or 4 as i bought them as i thought it was ok.One day my brakes locked on on me and i had to crack the front nipple.Drove it to the brake shop and explained.When the cap was taken off the resevoir it was contaminated as the brake bloke said it would be with shit floating around.What it done was swell my seals up in the master cylender so i had to drain all lines and bottle clean them out blow metho through them and refill again.

He said it could of been from mixing the fluids both castrol or from dirty fluid but i always have them sealed.I was also told to be careful as it can eat lines out and damage pistons/calipers.Hope this helps in some way
