a bit of a detour with pantera on the home from work tonight;

clearly some good need of a suspension lift (ordered today), but also chunkier tyres & even an LSD or something. after pantera drove the same lumps & didn't put a foot out of place, all 4 stayed on the ground with no spinning unlike my efforts.

also on the way home i hit a railway crossing at 80 or 100kph & the back end got all out of shape. is that normal for these cars or could it be the pump up rear suspension bouncing ??? i've driven over it a thousand times & it's usually barely even noticeable in other cars.

Jimny is short and light so you have to drive with the tail happy action in mind. What tyre pressure were you running at the time?

she's very tail happy, especially in soft sand & mud haha. just got the factory recommended pressures (28 or 29 psi ???), also have 10psi in the air bags atm, apparently you're not meant to go below 5psi with them.

My tyre placard says 23 front and 26 rear unladen, 29 in the rear when fully loaded

i run 25 front 25 rear due to the weight hanging off the front bar.
29 in the rear is a spine shattering ride. only run that kind of pressure when towing the boat.

ok so checked the tyre pressures & you guys were right on the money, had 35psi in all 4 wheels. dropped it down to 25 & it's so much more comfortable to drive in, when i get a chance i'll go over the train tracks again & see if they still give me any bother.

i phoned & spoke to them as they have a few lifts for sale. this set includes the king springs but generic shock absorbers (still long throw or whatever but i'm not expecting them to be spectacular). way i figure it is if the shocks are bad i can swap them out for some dobsons/koni/old man emu in future.

Ok I have been looking at lifts as I have just got a 2000 jimny and was thinking either a ome, tough dog or ironman the only thing with. Ome is it's only 40 mm and the rest are 50-60mm.

at least with the OME gear they have a few different springs & shock combo's from memory depending on load carrying etc etc.

Ome springs are a bit too soft IMO. Rear lost stiffness front was prone to floating on courrigations

the OME kit usually consists of king springs with OME shocks, & from what i've read they're pretty soft like jezza said. the kit i've ordered includes the same king springs as the OME kit so i'm guessing i'll cop a soft ride.

with all i've been reading (AND ABSOLUTELY ZERO EXPERIENCE) my preference if i wasn't a tight árse was a dobinsons set that you can build on the super cheap auto site for $801 delivered (or $1,045 if you collect in store lol). it's the same kit as offered by superior engineering on their site for $875 + freight.

when you bring up the shocks & springs, you'll need to click the little green + symbol to see the lifted variants & the different weight ratings they have (think they go from 35kg to 80kg in accessories).

I'm pretty much 1000% sure OME don't use king springs. Even if they did, the specs OME use would be unique to them and not retailed by King.

OME certainly don't use king leaf springs.

^ i have boxes with OME springs in the shed. the boxes are OME boxes, and i have never noticed 'King' on the box, but i can take a closer look this arvey?
i had OME 40mm with diesel rated front springs and shocks. my 75mm lift is more stable, and corners better, without the swaybar then the OME one did.

i did have a LOT of weight on the roof racks when i compared them but.

i know with the OME set there are 3 spring options with the jimny so maybe different sets use different brands of spring (i don't think ome manufacture springs do they) ? the option i was quoted was matched with king springs (was on the quote, came to $858).

I think you're missing the point GraphicX. OME have their own suspension engineers and design their own springs. You're correct that OME don't manufacture their own springs, they have springs manufactured to their specs. Who that is done by is irrelevant, because you can't buy an OME spring from someone else. Even if King branded springs came from the same factory as OME branded springs, you're not getting the same part designed to the same parameters.

This isn't a value judgement on the quality of OME or King, only an observation that an OME spring isn't identical to a King spring, even if it comes from the same factory.

If a shop was matching OME shocks to king springs, that's up to them, but that's not an OME kit
