Hi everyone.
I have beenbuilding up a lwb drover over the last few months. The motor in the car is suspect. I have a swb Vitara carby model. 150xxx kms. Starts and runs awesome. I originally purchased it for the power steering . (Car was cheap) I also have a complete sierra engine/box genuine 100000kms (absolutely screams) from my old sierra.
I want the power steering on the drover, but is it worth throwing the Vitara motor in while it's all together? Or just throw the power steer on my good 1.3 and be done with it? I'm not sure what would be done to wire the 1.6 in. I realise the carbys are different. But have not previous experience wiring cars. Could jet the sierra carby and run original intake to get past wiring but is it all worth it?
I know I need the power steering adapters etc as well as bellhousing kit of the Vitara Goes in but unsure if the gains will out weigh the effort. It will be pushing 33x10.5 BFgs with 6.5 and 3.9 diffs.
Opinions and previous experience is appreciated.
Build thread to come soon..
Cheers.

The extra torque of the 1600 would be useful pushing that size tyre. Also need to swap sump and cut/shut oil pickup for conversion. I did it to mine and it made a noticeable difference, in the wet it would lose traction in a straight line with full throttle.

Thanks mate. Opinion is appreciated. Still not sure which way to go, as I need a blue slip ( nsw ) for rego. Will most likely use the 1.3 I have so I don't have any issues passing .

First of all let me state i'm not a fan of 1.6L sierra swaps in general and have no real experience in the swap itself .
The general wisdom here is if you are going to the effort of putting a carby 8v 1.6l then you might as well go efi 16v 1.6 for so much more power.
What i can say in your case seeing as you already have what is essentially a free low k's engine so in your individual case i'd say its a good idea. With the tyres and gearing you still probably could do with all the torque and horsepower you can get. An aussie g16a puts out like 55kw/5250 and 122nm/3100. 51kw 103nm is the japanese g13a (lets say the full potential of a stock 1.3l g13a). Off the bat the almost 20% torque increase is obvious. This is an over simplification as they have different power curves but i'd be willing to bet in the sub 4000rpm the g16a will consistantly give more power.
If you do put it in you have most of the bits for a 16v efi if its in your future,. If you find a 16v head from any number of suzuki's including g13bb's you just need to swap in 16v pistons. If you got a complete g16b then you can go from there.
The sierra carby bolts onto a vitara intake no problems, i pretty sure there are a few threads on the forum of people doing just that. The 'wiring'of the two should be very similar but theres seems to be a lot more info on the Aisin carb on the interwebs. The intakes at first glance look identical and the layout of all the components are in the same location but the vitara intake has larger diameter passages to the head and some other things.
For a while there people went on how mikuni vitara Carbs where a superior to Aisin sierra carb. I haven't had a chance to pull one apart yet. It could be possible, that it came down to the simple fact most vitaras back in the day rarely went off-road. so when people bolted on second hand 1.6l carbs to the 1.3l they saw instant improvements. Bigger jets and the fact that all the individual circuits where probably clean and free of gunk. If yours is working sweet i'd make the extra effort of keeping it .

If you have the vit intake and carby, I would use the whole lot. Get a BenT kit, and enjoy the extra torque. Alternatively, have you considered running the whole vit gearbox?
It wont take much to wire in. The drover wont have much emissions wiring, so some of the emission switches/wires etc on the vit carby wont be needed.
However, I wouldn't use a good condition g16a as a stepping stone to a g16b.

I did consider running the whole gearbox from the Vitara and a modified output/jack shaft to suit the sierra transfer, But the thrust washer on the Vitara is becoming quite noisy. I am still get to decide. Had more of a look. Am leaning towards the complete Vitara swap ATM. Is there too much tunnel work to fit the manual Vitara box in??
