Right'o, so the zookhini is getting a new head unit.

Everything was already Kenwood all round, so thought that I would keep it that way.

the unit I bought and attempted to install is KMM-X50BT. It plugged right in, turns on and everything works.

However the Mounting sleeve doesn't fit in the existing din so the radio isn't attached in place --- Any fixes?

Also the Mic seems really quiet, mounted it where I have always seen them, at head height on the windscreen,
however apparently I can't be heard clearly unless I have my head right next to the Mic, so is there a way to
adjust the sensitivity or is something wrong????

There should be a mic volume somewhere in the settings. I have a 2din ken wood and I'm 99% sure it has a volume control for it. I haven't wired my mic in yet so haven't tried it out obviously. There should be a section in the manual somewhere on it.

Got any pics on the not fitting problem?

Scrap that... Just read the manual via the kenwood site and there's no mic volume. They suggest moving the mic closer ie around the line of your head on the roof in the door jam

SitRep: In pulling the head unit out, I had a brainstorm and fixed the problem. Completely operator error, the last head unit was out of an older car (got my moneys worth) and never had the actual mounting bracket. The one that I used was from the factory radio in the car, so I cut that out and put the new one in.

Re the Mic issue I also read the manual, and thought the same thing. I was fiddling in the bluetooth options and found a Mic adjustment which has fixed the problem. So the destruction manual seems to be missing crucial info. Now I know why I never use the things.

I put a Sony bluetooth unit in my work ute, and I have relocated the mic to several places, top of screen, and the A piller, to instrument panel, to in front of the head unit. and still everyone comments on echo/poor quality.

pioneer is the go for the cheaper units with bluetooth for voice quality

Well feedback thus far has been good, the Kenwood is pretty flash for the old Zook, changes colours constantly (not actually distracting). The settings are heaps better than the previous generation kit that I had, allowing all sorts of tweaks to be done to get the sound better. I have tested the Mic on various settings my using the land line answering service (driving the Mrs Mental) and I would say it's better thank our '11 focus which has a factory blue tooth so not bad for a low end unit It's very pretty.
