Hello everyone,
This has probably been asked a million times before here on the forum. I've looked and couldn't see if it has. My question is this, could I take the ecu and wiring looms off a modern jimny engine and bolt it onto a 1988 era sierra. How difficult if at all would it be and what would the advantages be? I'm assuming it would help make the engine more fuel efficient by managing fuel input and more reliable and increase power. I'm new to the Suzuki scene, used to A series mini engines. Thank you in advance for any help

I dont think its possible as everything down to the pistons is different? Someone else can clarify that....
But if you're going to the effort of taking a jimny head off to keep it as a 1.3L, why not just take the complete jimny engine?

I want a lazy way of making the engine more reliable. I know that all the wiring link up is certainly not an easy task. In that case would a weber carb, fuel pump and extractors give me more reliability and hp gain? Thanks for the reply, I'm as green as grass to all this.

A nift way to get more power at the wheels is gearing. Expecially if you allready have bigger tyres. Good maitnance usually brings about reliability. Higher hp out of a older worn in engine and higher reliability donot go together great.

I don't think you're realistically going to add reliability with a carb change.
I'm sure it's possible to convert a G13BB back to carby, but you'd have to do some tricky stuff to fire the coil packs. Perhaps using a Vitara G16B head would be easier as it has a distributor.
However, I don't think the car will end up more reliable. Here's why:
16V heads have no provision for a fuel pump. Low pressure electric fuel pumps aren't more reliable than the stock mechanical pump. The engine will no longer be a free spinner, broken timing belt=carnage You're going to be all over the place on fuelling, cam selection and timing curve. Without dyno time to get it properly tuned, there's no guarantee you're not hurting the motor with the unknown fuelling/timing curve the whacky combination you'll end up with might require.
If you sort all of that, I can 100% promise you'll chase carb gremlins/jetting/cold start nonsense for the rest of the time you own the motor, especially as the SOHC motors have huge ports and were never designed for carby use.
Or you could bolt in a whole G13BB, put a coil tank in it with a swimmer pump, spend not more than 2 days on the wiring, and have an engine that's factory reliable, has proper diagnostics, and EFI drivability.
Steve.
