Hi all,

I have searched around (as best as I can) and can't find anyone in Australia who is making a kit to fit hilux cv's to a Vitara. The only ones I have been able to find are in the us and from a few years ago. Does anyone know of such a kit or has made one?

Ask BenT (the guy who does the 1600 adapter kits and the Vitara rear disc kits). Not sure if it is awaiting final testing (mostly because the prototype is sitting in the back of my Vitara waiting to be installed) or whether he is ready to go with supplying them.

Thanks Pico will do. Tanshi the ones I have seen just rely on the brass bush to do the sealing on the back of the hub. As far as I know the internals of aisin hubs are interchangeable between most makes, so could possibly use the stock zook hub with toyota internals if the kit allowed.

it does need the spacer because the stub axle on the cv is longer, but its notmally just a disk with holes in it.

the shaped machining seems like over kill to me

I have his disc brake set and was very impressed with it, so approached him about putting together a Toyota CV kit (after I couldn't get hold of Stan /37Kicker). This was the result. I will get it installed in a few weeks time, then test it out over Easter. But to be honest I am not expecting any issues - the concept of it is pretty straightforward.

I've only have the one kit running on Pico42's Vitara so far, but when making the kit I measured some SV cv's and they were quite a bit longer than the SE ones, so there's a chance it might fit in without the Hagen mod. I can't think of anything else that would stop it fitting an SV.

Sv and gv with a stubby run the se cv on the ds and gv/sv cv so should fit on ds but ps may need a further spacer...

Right, I see... although the Toyota CV has quite a bit more plunge travel, so may be able to take up the extra distance without another / a thicker spacer.

Are the SV and GV CV's exactly the same?

They are interchangeable on the ps of the gv and sv the ds need an se cv with the stubby as the sv is too long. Sorry to any one who is confused by the short hand. To run the se cv on both sides it needs around a 30mm spacer on the ps. I don't thi k the luv cv has that much room at rest plus travel.

The Toyota CV with adaptors fitted is about 15mm shorter than the SV shaft, but has 20mm more travel, so its going to be close to fitting I think.

Sounds like I have a tester keen to try the kit in a GV now, so watch this space.

I like the sound of that! I already have cv spacers so if it needs it to have a bit more travel and fits that's fine with me.

So, what is the weak point of the Vitara se, Sv/Gv CV joint/ shaft assemblies?
Is it the Cv's themselves, cages breaking?
Or stub axles, shaft breakages?
In what way are Hilux shafts better? Heavier duty, I guess. But thicker shafts? Bigger cv's?
Noob questions.

Vit Cvs don't always break in the same way they break cages, housing, strip splines. Pretty much everything. Lux cvs are bigger in pretty much everyway.
