[Hybrid]

My donor car that ended up becoming the Mrs' learner fourby came with dobinson lifted springs. They're really harsh. I have the back packs down to 3 leaves and they're still stiff with vertical shackle sitting practically vertical. Has anyone had any luck making dobo springs work or am I going to have to "spring" for some alternative OME,EFS etc springs for her?

They are probably 7-8mm leafs. The thick main leaf is good prevention for axle wrap however the rest just make the pack too stiff. Id use the dobinson main leaf and track down some WT leafs to make up the rest of pack

Thanks JR. I thought that might be the case. I'll look out for some different packs. I'll try the dob mains in my offroader as it has custom packs with a bit of axle wrap.

Alot of the time the shocks may be the problem. Swap out the shocks for the usual commodore/hiace ones and see how you go.

I was down to 3 leaf OME packs in the rear using these shocks thinking the leafs were still too stiff.....

For a cheapish shock alternative with soft valving and reasonable length try looking into boge turbo shocks. These rode wayyy better then the commo/hiace setup.

Thanks Dank but that's the first path I went down. JR must be telepathic because I actually went for the boge shocks a couple of months back but they made no noticeable difference. It is definitely the spring packs that are the issue.

i had dobinsons springs in my sierra when i bought it. removed them because they were too soft and ended up going S shaped... i dont remember the main bottom leaf being there now, come to think of it... plus I have a nice big steel tray for extra weight.
