I am in the process of installing an g16b into my swb vitara and when I turned the key to on, the tacho jumps to 2000 rpm with out the engine running.

I am guessing I have stray voltage coming from some where but I can't figure out where, tacho wiring is pretty straight forward.

I also don't have lights come on for 4wd, L or battery, but I can live without these. However they may be related problems.

Using the pin out and wiring diagrams I have I have run the multi meter over a few wires and the back of the cluster and everything there seems to be as it should, however I hate wiring and may have missed something.

If anyone has any suggestions them please let me know.

Cheers

I'm not really a knowledgeable person on this but when i had a baleno 1.6 put in my Sierra there was a resistor that needed to be added / changed in the cluster So the rpm would read correct. May be of some help.

Thanks for the tip, I will do some research and see what I can find, however since its still a vitara I thought it would be OK?

I have done some more poking around today and tried a few things. I disconnected the brown wire from the back of the speedo and tried power again and had the same result, so my indication isn't coming from that side of things. I have also checked the wiring at the engine end and can't findanything obvious there either.

On the plus side, I discovered why my indication lights weren't working. I missed an earth for the 4wd lights and I forgot to change over the sense wire from the alternator from my old harness to the new one.
