Road tyres are more prone to damage, in my limited experience.
AT's be a better choice on sand, if not wanting or needing mudders.
Never had a problem with mudders on sand with light Zooks, heavy cars may be different?
When towing my camper on sand, I can fit the trailers AT's to the front wheels.
This seems to work better in my limited sand experiences.

Did you all miss the bit where he says back to back testing proved the mt was better than the at...

I think that boggers are closer to a paddle than a MT

He's not talking about bloggers when making reference to the magazine article about testing tyres in the sand...

I ran Hankook dynapro AT:s on my Jimny 215/75 and found them hopeless in the sand.
They have a narrow cut in shoulder that ads to the skinniness and even let down to 10 or 8 psi they wouldn't bag out much.
Felt they weren't doing the car any favours in the sand.
This was in dunes ,beach sand along shoreline and in grey sand tracks in local bushland.
Went to khumo kl71 and are definitely wider and bag out heaps better at same air pressure.
They do dig in slightly more at take off and heavy slow patches but the rest of the time they sit nicely on top the sand once theres constant momentumn.
Definitely an improvement on the AT in my opinion
Both tyres 215/75

Air pressure is where it's at to get you going on sand

Driving the exact same lines week in week out on the exact same track must be a real challenge too.

Just trimed one of my videos on you tube from beach port showing effects of tyre pressures.

Was on Bridgestone D697's which proved to be a big struggle in sand. last time i was there was on pirelli scoprion ATR's which was fun and effortless on sand. The bridgetones where just an embarresment as never had a issue on sand, but where good on rocky hill climb's etc.

One day people will listen, regardless all of the above tyres will work at suzuki sand pressures! Anyone that says an A/T doesn't work ain't dropping there pressures far enough! Go down to 10-8 psi! None of this 15 rubbish, your not in landcruisers! And I've seen highway terrains eat up the sand, when let down properly.

Yep that was the bridgestones absolutly embarressing had to go down to 8psi along the bogy beach to 6 to get out of a bog. I was there with all the recovery gear but the tires just made such a effort of everything. It wasnt a fun weekend.

I pratically walked up long sand dune trails along the coorong with out the engine struggling like that with the pirrellis and never got stuck and way softer sand than that.

Other A/T tires never had a issue even the original H/T's, yet to try out the Grabbers, i am hopping they are good in the sand!

When i had 215/75r15 HT tyres i ran them at around 7psi on sand and it went anywhere. If i was going faster / doing bush tracks in between beach tracks i'd run 10psi. At 7psi, if i got bogged generally if i got out of the car i'd sink past my ankles in the sand it was that soft.

South Ngkala Rocks at Fraser Island after a long dry period and hot days is an awesome test for sand driving prowess. Anyone that's been there during peak season will attest to this. Correct PSI is where it's at and "bald tyres are best for soft sand" is a fallacy.

have a look at the pic's sookie took of neo,
stock g13 and directional muds,
power isnt required,
directional muds still work,
tyre presure, correct gearing and knowing how to drive is what works

I have used everything from stock tyres through to boggers on a wt sierra, they all worked fine, you just need to learn what preasure works for what tyre/car/load and what driving style suits that

Pressures are more important.

A ht will need higher pressures that a mt.

If I had to choose a tire it would be the BFG Baja comp tire (or anything with a similar pattern) or these: http://www.offroaders.com/tech/AT-MT-Ti ... STS_AT.htm
