without it turning into a debate about the pros and cons of spoa, can people
that have a spring over setup let me know how they went about setting it up.
i wanna know things like.
how do you get the caster right when gluing on the perches?
is there a spoa kit that takes the guess work out of setting up the steering?
is there a decent steering solution?
where can i get the bits needed?
what else do i need to know

if spoa is such a bad idea how come the bits for sale section isn't full of spoa bits for sale?

Mine is SPOA, but i bought it like that. All I did was the steering.
I used the Rocky Road OTT stage 2 kit, which gets the tierod up above the springs. I have no bumpsteer to talk of now, it is great. It utilises the 4 king pin bolts, as well as the caliper bolts so it is way sturdy.
Mine also has the centres rotated, which helps with the tailshaft angle.
With your steering, use a regular pitman arm, that way you can do a RUF without the pitman arm hitting the tierod.


Have a look on a few US sites like rocky road, low range offroad and breeze industries, from memory.

I may have a rocky road steering setup for sale very shorty if your interested. they are the best setup ive seen maybe short of the snake replacement knuckle.
you can get weld on perches from lowrange that set up your castor.

allways weld the perches parallel to the way they were, never try tilt the perches at all.

there are some kits available. people have thier opinions on all.(p.s..keep watching my vit axle build thread for a new arm style )

you can get perches, but as far as i know no one makes diff mounted shock mounts. never use the flipped spring plate mount as a shock mount.

spoa has a bad name becuase most of the time people execute it poorly. they want to do it in a weekend and that just wont happen unless you have many tools at you're disposal. here are some pics from a spoa sierra in my driveway. its engineered for 31's. p.s...at the end of the day i have seen many poorly setup vehicles of all configurations. i have seen many spring under cars roll also. we can all blame various systems, but one thing i have noticed is not all drivers are up to scratch

a little off topic,

but.... joe, i saw a pic that you have posted previously... (cant find it anywhere) of a hilux spoa set-up you had done, im looking for the pic of the cross over steering you made, there was something about an arm bolted upside down so you had enough clearance over the springs... if you could please re post this i would be extremely grateful a couple of specs would be real handy too

My engineer would not let me do that, or fit a chaos double arm... All good for the snake racing high steer arms. Bit exy compared to the former options though
