Hey guys,

I bought a Primus IQ brake controller the other day from ebay and was just wondering if anyone has installed one of these in a Suzuki Jimny?

Is their already a harness installed behind the dash you can plug-and-play connect to, or do the connections have to be soldered?

I have a hayman reece towbar... When I installed it I seem to remember there being one loose wire on the back of the connector, which was presumably for the brakes?

You'll need to do all your own wiring. You'll need a 30A circuit breaker and decent size wire. Did it come with instructions? Yes, the left over wire should be blue and that's the one to connect to. What do you plan to tow btw?

Ah well, I bought some 6mm twin core for doing the wiring on the trailer so should be able to use some of that for the car wiring... I haven't even received the unit yet tbh was just hoping to find out how difficult it would be beforehand/ what extra bits to go and buy :p

As far as towing goes, I have a poptop camper... its a bit heavy for the Jimny tbh... It sits somewhere around 500kg I believe... It isn't too bad towing at ~90-95km/h as long as the water tank is empty, but once you add the extra 60kg the weight really starts to add up....

i ran my singal wire from the back of the car because i wisnt want to cut the wires near the break peddle.

30A self resetting breaker ext to the pos terminal, 6mm single blue to the trailer plug, 6mm from the trailer plug to the breaks.

check your earth between your trailer and your car. if using a tregg style hitch with a polly block then your chains are the only earthing convection and that can be dodge.
i put in a thick earth on a anderson plug so the breaks and aux power didnt melt the earth return in the 7 core trailer cables.

Use a large round trailer plug and socket rather than a standard one. A Narva one has 30A rated contacts as opposed to the standard 15A jobbies as well as the ability to accept 6mm automotive cable whereas a standard one won't. Do upgrade the earth on the car as well as most trailer sockets are wired back to a tiny taillight wire.
