I am interested in setting up one of these for my comp rig. Just wondering the pros and cons, did you make yourself from plan or bought a setup. How are the brakes connected that sort of thing

Ive seen cables that pull on the hand brake cable and ones that pull on the pedal
I think the tow car needs to be 3.5 times the weight of the car being towed

dads one uses a cable that pulls the brake pedal.

Does the towed car need to be road legal and registered?

I think the 3.5 times the tow weight is to avoid the need for the towed cars brakes to be used (correct me if I'm wrong). I couldn't find definitive answers as to whether you could make a setup where you can a-frame tow with something like a land cruiser, if you could make the towed cars brakes work I can't see why not... I think it would be easier to be legal with a car that doesn't use a brake booster

I think it has to do with the fact that you have to pull the front of the car around and it takes a bit of effort before the wheels steer. Im guessing they r worried if the tow car is to light the towed car could pull the back around if the steering say hit a bump and wanted to go the other way

Just playing the devils advocate, but if its a competition rig how possible is it that during competition the car could get damaged in such a way that it can no longer be towed using an A Frame type tow rig? (requiring a flat bed trailer to get it home)

Anything heavier than 750kg being towed in Australia needs brakes. Does not matter what you are towing it with.

Yes the towing vehicle needs to be 3.5 times the towed vehicle well that ain't going to happen so yes there needs to be brakes on the tow vehicle - which is not really a huge issue just a matter of hooking them in somehow, some use the handbrake some use the normal brakes through the pedal or something

A former does need to be engineerings as do the mounts again not a biggy

As for it not being towable after a comp well then it's no different to when you do it to your daily driver when You take it to big red and get too ambitious
