Hi

Just pulling my knuckles out for maintenance .. and I have a couple of questions
1. Should the CV joint area contain grease or oil .... I'm guessing grease so mine probably has a stuffed oil seal at the diff.
2. How much surface wear on the ball part of the knuckle is OK .. I have a couple of definite ridges which means water and sh*t will eventually get through

That looks like pitting on the knuckle to? How deep are those ridges on the knuckle?

1. only grease, sounds like you should replace the axle seal.
2. mine looked similar to yours with pitting etc and I made it smooth with and angle grinder with with a fine sand paper disk and went over it with just fine sand paper after wards to make sure its smooth.

it does not seem to be leaking, I have rebuilt my entire knuckles though, new seals and bearings etc..

Hmm yes there is pitting on the knuckle .. I'll take another pic tomorrow to show the ridges

So if they are too bad whats the repair ...

There is a product called POR15 that you can paint on the knuckles and sand down. A few good coats should go close to filling those wear grooves.
Though probably easier (and possibly cheaper) to just replace the diff housing.
