More the reasoning behind a solid a-fram compared to a tubular setup which would probably be easier to make?

problem with the tubular frame is the hump for the tailshaft. the one currently in there is tubular with sheet, and doing the hump was a pain. the new one is lasered, folded and welded, simple.
yes 5.1 gears. maybe next fathers day i might get chromos

So many compliments and all well deserved. Somehow I too have missed this thread until now. Have just read it from start to finish. Fantastic, and I love your choice in using off the shelf parts where possible.

thanks zukenutter, i don't mind making custom stuff like housings etc because they are a non service item and should last a while, but headaches will happen when making custom axles etc, plus off the shelf stuff is generaly pretty good in a well setup vehicle.
p.s nutter........i will be doing a housing for a jimny down the track also. this will use a sierra centre so you have heaps of choice with diff gears and move the steering to the front. it will also get rid of the front housing flex problem.

Sounds good, I'm a typical Suzuki tight arse though, I hope it fits my budget. When you say housing flex problem....?

I to have not read this post until now. The skills and engineering that you have to fabricate things like a DIFF from start to finish just simply astonish me. I think steknig summed up your welding pretty well, I got a bit of a movement down there also when I was flicking through the pages I started a boilermaking apprenticeship when I left school and can appriciate the amazing skills that you have. And before anyone gives me shit(steknig) I'm not kissin ass here, just giving credit were it is obviously deserved Keep up the excellent work Joe.
