Is it always set off while braking?
Before you do the other stuff, do you have a pulsing felling in your brake pedal? If so you need to either; get your brake rotors machined; or replace them with a new set.

It isnt always set off by braking. It is mainly set off by hitting road imperfections. I have felt a shake while braking at slow speeds. I have had my brake calipers serviced and pads changed at SuziAuto.

If there's a pulsing in the pedal you may want to get it checked. I had slightly warped rotors causing my last wobble, suck when you're trying to slow down and wobble starts and the only way to overcome the wobble is lift your foot off the brake. I had a few close calls.

Yea it is definately a very dangerous affair. The annoying thing is that most mechanics dont truly fix the problem. SuziAuto just swapped the front two wheels with the back two and found that the wobble almost went away, without acutally fixing anything. Could you recommend someone to properly check my coily and diagnose the wobble? Im fed up with not being able to drive anywhere without worrying about it.

The lift has not been changed since the factory and im unsure about castor correction as i am a noobie. Is there an easy way of checking?

I'm about to hand over the Jimny to my Minister of Finance and War as her daily driver and figured I better get rid of the Jimny shimmy. Can anyone recommend a WA based mechanic who confidently fixed their wobble/shimmy? I called Suzishop and they listed a lot of things they would do to it without mentioning shimming the kingpins. Didn't inspire confidence, especially with the price they quoted. I would appreciate a recommendation and how much it cost to get it done. Thanks

If it's just a shimmy, get the tyres rebalanced and rotated front to rear before spending money on stuff that's more related to death wobble.

Swapping rims from 15x5.5 to 15x7 with -15 offset keeping my BFG AT 215/75 R15. Doing a rotation/balance/alignment with the rim swaps and if any shimmy/wobble remains at 70-80km/hr I'll be wanting to get it sorted.
Previously a balance/rotation/alignment did nothing for the shimmy/wobble. I doubt it will this time especially if I step up the rim size.
Any recommendations from others on who to get it fixed up with in Perth would be awesome.

Put a socket and a long breaker bar on the pan hard bolts and see if theh move in a clockwise direction.
Iff not. Jack the car remove the front wheels. Take off the tie/drag links and see how free and easy the kingpin bearings move. Using a fidh scale pulling on the eye where the tie rod was connected, see how many kg you need to pull before the steeting nucle turns if its less then 4kg with the scraper seal on then you should put in new bearings. Depending on how many k's youve done if rebuild the whole lot with new scraper seals, kingpin bearings, and shims to tension it all up. Its not a big job but if you dont feel like doing it yourself a good honest mechanic can do it in less then a hour a side.

my Jimny with 30,000kms, suspension lift and 30 inch muddies developed some really bad steering wobble. it would be usualy set off going over bumps when traveling down hill.

After a few months of putting up with the wobbles i decided to swap my tyres front to back.
Good news! The wobbles are gone!

I'm glad this simple fix is working for some Jimny owners

They are just normal shims, the dimensions are on that bulletin - 15x24x0.5 (ID x OD x Thickness).
As far as I could find there is no specific part number, so I searched around for a while trying to find them off the shelf with no luck.

I ended up finding a place in western Sydney that would punch them out for me and think I still have their phone number on a piece of paper in the glove box, but not near the car now.

suzuki, jimnybits, ORA, Bigjimny all sell em.

I vote we get 100 in 0.2 & .5 mm widths and sell them in the AZ shop front.

I am about to replace my tie rod ends on my coily as the death wobble has been getting worse and worse. Don't think it will fix it although it is a start. I happen to feel a lot of play in my steering wheel without the tyres moving at all, as well as a clicking sound coming from around the steering box.. Has anyone experienced the wobbles due to a flogged steering box? Best way of checking?

Just thought I would throw my input in and play devils advocate (so to speak). I own a 2007 Jimny, and have yet to experience any sort of wobble, whilst stock or since lifted. In saying that though, when I lifted mine 2inch, I also installed a steering damper, caster correction bushes, and replaced almost all the front end bearings (including the kingpin bearings, along with checking all the shims ect). Now have 215/75/15's and nothing has changed.

Only time will tell though :S

with castor correction and correct shimming of the king pins, you may never experience death wobble.
with a steering damper, you wont experience it until its a larger problem.

Our 96 coily had same problem changed wheels and tyres to 16". new shocks and springs rebushed tough dog penard rod. Was sick of the unreasonable wobble at any time any speed drove me nut after a small fortune and wow running fantastic not had the problem since. But keeping fingers crossed.

ffs i HATE SUZUKIS now hahahah
after all my dramas i have had, and just fixed, was driving this morning and had to lightly brake around 60 km/h, well after nearly loosing control from the font end bouncing near on a foot off the ground and flying off the road.... I HAVE THE WOBBLE.... never will i buy a new suzuki made after 1996 again.

couple that with outdated designs in all models, i feel this may start a death rattle (wobble lol) for suzuki cars.

Full blown wobble is a horrible thing! Walk away for a while then tackle it later.

wish it would get stolen and burnt out. fkn 20k lemon. aka new suzuki.
i need new rotors as i have a pulse when braking, a wheel balance and i predict the HD panhard rod bush is stuffed, maybe radius arm bushes also. im sure king pins are good. maybe fitting a steering dampner. a bandaid fix, but it fixed my pootrol back in the day.

there was no lead up at all, just normal to bam, wobble. just seems one thing after another this year, bring on 2015.

Scary isn't it. It can be fixed but it'll need a process of elimination. Personally I think the dampener is a worthy addition in an attempt to fix it. If it was set off under light braking I'd try new rotors only first, could be that's it.
