The Carby is intermittently starving for fuel and is leaking from the plunger. It is a 1996 SJ70, what could some of the issues be? We only had it rebuilt 2 years ago, it's stock.

The plunger leak is only minute. The starving for fuel happens sometimes when you put your foot down.

You had the carby rebuilt? or the engine.
If its leaking, Best off not to muck around, buy a carby kit, like $55 from repco. Put that in, clean everything while you are there, and make sure the float height is correct.
Carby kit will include a new plunger.

Re the starving for fuel, there's a stainless steel filter mesh inside the carby where the fuel line slips onto it. Try pulling that out and checking it for blockages. I had a heap of junk in mine at one point (not long after a rebuild) that meant it would starve under load but would idle quite happily. Also consider putting an extra fuel filter between the fuel pump and the carby to provide a bit of extra protection against muck in the fuel lines.

Just took it into the Carby shop and discovered the problem is electrical.....back to drawing board. Intermittent surging. The revs cut out.

What about the leaking plunger? Which I assume is the accelerator pump.

You can see residue around the plunger at the front right of the Carby but it wasn't leaking when tested and you can't see moisture there so I don't know what's happening have booked it in to get analysed next week.
