A shock that's near 17mm longer compressed is too long for the application.

Steve.

Why do you say that? As long as he installs bump stops do don't see an issue. It was mentioned the current springs use spring bind to stop the shocks bottoming out. So as long as he sets up some bump stops to the right length (around 17mm longer than the compressed springs) it sounds to me like he will just gain a whole lot of travel. I.e 17mm sacrifice of upward travel for over 2 inches downward travel.

This is also assuming the spring will remain captive.

Haha yea a heap of down travel on the cal springs will let them pop out. If you extend the top bump stop should be fine.

that's all nice & shiney, but i don't like the idea of having the shock shaft exposed... eg inverted shocks? won't take much of a rock to be kick up by the front wheels & trash the shock boot/damage the chrome on the shaft, i don't run boots on my commy shocks but at $25 each i'm not fused. but they're mounted in the conventional way.

were you able to order them so they were like the originals? :?
