Anyone on here run wide big offset wheels and tyres?

I realise the preference of this forum in tall skinny tyres, like 31-33 on 9inch wide when possible, but wondering if anyone has run like 30-32, 10.5-11.5 on a 8inch wide wheel neg 30-40 offset.

I understand there are issues with roll centre and this will affect different suspension designs differently, I also understand it will put more stress on the bearings. But after peoples real world experiences.

So if you have run a similar combo in the past, what did you like, what did you hate, what terrain did you drive, what issues did you have?

How will u get that to clear the guards and firwall
10.5 on a 10p rim will tuck up in the guards and clears the fire wall with the hagen mod which moves front wheel forward
Neg 40 rims have a massive scrub radius
U will need to move fire wall back to turn but then u will need to move pedals back as well
it will probly hit the head light as well
U will need a body lift and big guard cut to clear the rear

To be honest I am not looking at going nearly that extreme, just after peoples opinions that have done it. I will most likely end up with alloy wheels 16x8 -25 with a 30.5x10.5 inch tire which should clear with a 2+2 lift and some trimming (I hope haha).

Just interested to see how wide and crazy people have gone and the problems they have faced.

I had 33x12.5 tyres on 15x8 -15 rims and they fitted with a little bit of hammer help.

Wow that is seriously big for a vitara! What kind of lift were you running? Snap a lot of axles?

I bought the car for its motor, previous owner did a bit to it and when I say it was a little bit of hammer help what I mean is a big air chistle and zero concern for the car.

vet180, these were 15x8.5's & a fair old offset... can't remember off the top of my head, i on-sold them to another SA auszooker & they haven't been fitted yet, they would not clear my big brakes.

mines got neg 22 15x7s with 30x9.5s and it scrubs the guards turning in car parks and my drive way

They would have looked pretty hot if they fitted.

In fact your car now looks quite balanced. I don't know your current width or offset, but it has enough poke and looks tops. No doubt it will be more balanced than what I will run (I want a little more poke, not a lot just a little). With your current poke, how did it affect stability?

Ironically I do have an opportunity to get a set of cooper discovery MT stt's in 32 x 11.5 VERY cheap ($300 for a set of 4 never used 2012 dated), but passed on them as I think they will cause me more headaches than they are worth (snapped axles, fitment issues etc)

I never got to run them & didn't even have tyres fitted to them.

I've always run the same -15 15x7's on 30's & 31's so it's always been stable... I gained something like 80mm total in wheel track from stock.

Friend of salih's had those type of rims on his swb vit.
Think he had 30x9.5 on them.
15x8 rims and neg 30 offset iirc

It was ridiculously wide.
Some scrub problems

I didn't like how it looked, but others loved it.

Could you elaborate? Scrub as in scrub radius or scrub as in rub?

Atari is this your version of peer pressure? It does look great with the 32's. I also like how the OP continually says that 32's are the perfect size wheel for a vitara!

I read the whole thread. Some interesting and good info in there. The most interesting for me was that the guy is against diff drop brackets and runs 4"+ of suspension lift (plus body lift, damn he likes them tall!) but has never blown a alloy diff! Despite running strut spacers etc.

The last page of the thread has him on 8 inch -25 rims with 31's and imo looks bang on perfect (about 2inhes too much lift for me though, but good on him if he likes it that way each to their own and all that).

they call me the instigator... just planting a few seeds.

i recall reading that about the diff drops & steve had many years of Vitara's under his belt, but i'm certain he would have had the CV's bind at full droop with some lock on. if i was to have my time again, i'd be going back to a 16" just so i could get away from the staggard pad change & run a skinny metric 32" with maybe just a smidge more offset to keep the outside of the tyres in the same sort of spot.

Staggered pad change? If I go the 32's they will be on a 15inch rim. They are far from skinny though at 11.5 wide, however that should suit sand nicely. I would prefer a 16inch wheel just because 16's are the most supported 4x4 tire here. You can get them dirt cheap in great zuk sizes. If I do go the 15's with the stt's I do not think I will have to change the tires anytime soon.

I don't mind the look of the wheels I currently have but need spacers, I don't really like spacers, and for the price you might as well get new wheels.

i'm running 15's that don't "fit" over the big brakes designed for 16's on the SV vitara's, had to clearance the calipers & stagger the pad change to get them to work.

I see. Yeah 16's would be a better solution. Staggered pad change would be a pain in the ass

I personally don't like big offset wide wheels with skinny tires. That particular tire would look better on a 15x7 -15 wheel IMO. 10.5 min for 8inch wheel with kind of offset
