in all honesty, the h27 is looking like a pretty good option. 137kw, 125kg

That 3.9/4.0 rover v8:
(140 kW) at 4,750 rpm and 250 lb·ft (340 N·m) at 2,600 rpm
Apparently weighs around 150kg??

I guess that additional bonus would be the complete running gear setup outta a disco/rangie (-diffs)+ some descent suspension bits

In fact the more I think about this on a budget the vq30de is a good option. It's a wards top 10 winner. These can be found cheap in maxima's. They are a great engine and very light due to the open deck design. They are around 140-150kgs from memory

VQ30de:
193 PS (142 kW; 190 hp) to 230 PS (170 kW; 230 hp) @ 6400 rpm and 205 to 217 lb·ft (278 to 294 N·m) @4400 rpm.

The 2005+ pathfinder engine is a good option too:
vq40de:
266 hp @5600 rpm; 288 lb·ft (390 N·m) @4000 rpm)

My 2 cents - stay with the H27A idea. Fairly moved along in my old GV so should be an absolute ball tearer in an LJ.

Sounds like its about the right size/weight/power that you are looking for. Nice to be able to say its still got a suzi motor in it as well.

I'm going to stick my stupid oar in here...

I would assume that the Swift (we call 'em Metros here...) 3-cylinder is out of the question despite the fact that they are bigger than nearly any OEM lj engine (but not by much) and are easy to install...

That said, if you feel adventuresome, Ford has some nice turbo engines - starting with their 1 liter 3 cyl and 1.6 4 cyl EcoBoost. The only problem is that most are in FWD vehicles and require all the computer stuff that goes with them. A salvage yard project for sure...

I am unaware of anyone here in the States ever doing that conversion... but if I won the Powerball or MegaMillions lotteries, that would be a fun project....

ZX2R.

The suzi drivline should be able to handle the extra torque and power this engine would bring.

lol @ 99% of these suggestions... even a reliable SR20 is going to need pretty deep pockets & even then the drift guys struggle to keep them together with the G forces they pull, let alone some of these more exotic suggestions, you'd want a top notch dry sump set up for some of the motors suggested as you'd hate to lunch one.

you need ditch the LJ cab, it's been done & done to death.

early model trayback carry 4wd, mid mount 13b on LPG or a EFI 6 port 13b, C4 trans, geared hilux transfer & built lux or 60 series diffs with front & rear steer. what's the TTC requirement for chassis length before firewall & motor position & how far behind the cab, if i remember correctly the "firewall" is almost at the back of the cab? narrow the cab 70% & chop the floor out & the bottom off it & the bottom of the doors to meet the minimum side profile like the TJ that won last year... how cool would it be wheeling a cab over, you'd want to push the front axle out infront of the cab, doing climbs would be sweet, could be a bit unnerving at first dropping into shit though.

Pretty sure you couldn't run a carry in TTC. There's some rule about being a factory 4wd (ie with a transfer case etc) can't remember exactly how the rules are written but it looks to prevent stuff like VW's, minis etc as a basis for a TT. Not enough bogan I think

We looked at running a delica van or early express van.

that would clearly be bogan enough

If money was not a worry, full Billet alloy 20B PP N/A rotor and drag race it.

i think im gonna work on an h27. a mild cam and some light work should make it nicely pokey

20 odd kw gain would put it in the range of an ls1 power to weight wise.

sweet!!!!!

the H series is pretty tall from sump to intake, but if you can fit a V8 & most other things in there you should be fine. i can grab a measurement if you want?

see if you can get onto DJ710 & get his cam grinds. 8)

why not VN 5.0, i hear it's the latest in engine choices for LJ buggies.

I have the h27 in my daily to measure off of so that should get me close.

hmm, cam grind, why didn't I think of that :). looking around I can find pistons rods and other stuff for the h25. but nothing for the 2.7

any one know what sorta work I should really be doing to suit a mildish cam? head work? up the compression?

Get the VL 304, hamstrung by (then) new emissions laws. It had a whopping 122kw of power.
