O.K. in previous posts I said I thought the rattling noise was coming from the top end of the motor somewhere near the distributor.... it was! After checking the tappet adjustment again to see if I had missed something, I was just about to put the tappet cover on when I thought I would check the Phillips screws on the tappet shaft mounting, the back four posts were loose on barely finger tight! Which allowed the tappet clearance to alter under load, just thought I would pass this on in case anyone else has a problem that sounds like the rattling/knocking sound of a diesel.....
