Hey Guys,

i'm in the middle of a complete aesthetic rebuild of my 89 sierra.

I was just wondering if anyone had done or seen anything a bit different or interesting when it comes to door cards.
I'm more than happy to wack some checker plate cards on and get them powder coated, just like every other like vampire on facebook who has driven every track in Australia more than you haha

I'm pretty sure I've got some ratty old ones laying around that I could use to draw up a template if need be!!
Please throw out all your ideas; kooky and crazy ones as well. I'm definitely not prejudice to the more imaginative ideas

I'd look for a kind of plastic sheet in 3mm or so.

Wouldn't get soggy like the originals, and won't tear up your legs like checker plate. Then paint them fern cammo or something.

On my Green leafy, I used 2mm steel sheet. Simply because it was surplus from another job. But if it was my money, I'd be sourcing some coily door trims.

I used 1.2mm (I think) brushed ally sheet on my race car. Treadplate is a terrible idea for door cards; just don't.

Personally, I'd go with greenzook and get some coily cards as your first 'ideal' option.

I used about 1mm steel plate and pop riveted them on painted black looks pretty decent and doesnt rattle like the old ones

Straight on. AFAIK the only difference on a coily is they have an anti intrusion bar in the door for ADRs.

There are several plastic kits available on the interwebs - some include the cards in the rear area, too.

I have a set of 1/4" (3mm?) black ones on my doors. They wipe clean, don't weigh much and are fitted with automotive plastic plugs so removing them to get at the window regulator or door latch gear is not an expensive process.

Fabbing one's own is pretty simple with an existing door card as a template and an electric jigsaw.

For the record, 1/4" is 6.35mm.

The trolley tug has black plastic cards made from some type of polyurethane and secured with nutserts and butter head cap screws.

my advice: avoid metal door cards like the plague. nothing worse than getting in the car on a hot day and burning your knee on it... its what was on mine when i bought the car, i just covered it in cheap automotive carpet. looks good, much cooler and if it gets wrecked it only cost me $20.

I have some more if anyone wants some, one side is as pictured - blue, other side is gloss white. 2mm poly sandwiched between 0.6mm alloy water cut. Other panels all have window winder holes

Wow, some great ideas! Especially the coily door card! Yet another reason why you all get the cool vehicles while we got nothin'.

Automotive carpet is a great idea whincup! My black sheet plastic does look pretty crappy...

I've had to replace the door cards on a Swift a couple of times, the first time around I went with the original hardboard (also known as tentest), and the second time around I used coroplast.

I was thinkin of cutting out a template from some 1-2mm plastic and spray/hot glue some tan suede type material. maybe a thin bit of foam in between?

im gonna eventual reupholster the interior in a suede/leather/dunno yet but all in a colour like this. so if I could get the door cards to fit with the theme that would be schweeeeeeeeet
also a bit of backyard upholstering practice would be nice

a sierra door car would be the best place to start to learn how to trim, personally do it in a canvas material over suede in a 4wd & definitely use foam, thinking something like the same weight as swag canvas in a tan colour like you picked. once done hit them with scotch guard & they'll be different, durable & not checker plate.

Someone on here made theirs from Corflute with marine carpet on top. Worked a treat. I believe the corflute was a stolen deli sign too. lol

I bought a plastic checkerplate lookalike that was so lightweight, I simply took the old vinyl off the door cards and put it onto the cars, wrapped around and glued like originals, I used red, there was silver and blue available from supercheap auto, this was for a 1990 swb vitara

Your amazing! I use this at work every now and then and never thought of using it for that! Now to hope we have some left overs

You'd be surprised what you can use alucobond for in a vehicle. It's pretty useful.

I used it as a fold down table on my vitara I had off the back door... It's easy to bend! Rout out the back and it bends to your line! It's good stuff
