If going that style engine I would much prefer the sr20ve. It shares most parts with the common as sr20de so parts a are easy to get and cheap, much much cheaper to buy and with a set of headers, tune and n1 cams wil make more than the f20c. Gearbox options are also much cheaper and readily available. For a 4x4 it makes much more sense. They also make more torque than the f20c.

No way in hell is an n/a sr20 going to make more power than a f20c aside from turboing it even in stock form the f20c would wipe the floor with it dispite any on paper hp comparison

Ok show me a stock f20 that has done a low 10 sec pass without nitrous or boost? Atari the sr20ve caked and tuned will cost a fraction of the f20

Dreamin getting more than 220rwhp out of a na sr20 without spending 7-8k and even then you have all the associated trouble of a heavily cammed fragile engine on limit of its capabilities in a offroad application. Wouldnt a stock engine pumping out 230 rwhp be alot more pleasant and reliable ?

I don't want to turn this into an argument, but I think we're getting a bit fanciful with the numbers here and forgetting the application
A Motus makes 60% more torque than a Hyabusa motor stock. Sure, a 'busa makes more HP at much higher revs, and, with more money spent on it I'm sure it could make even more power at even more revs, but there's still going to be a big torque hole to fill up. The 'busa engined race buggies that compete in the AORC already look to struggle with low torque, and they are far, far lighter than a 4WD. Forced induction might be a solution to this and keep the engine under the cost of the Motus, but I don't believe a 'busa motor under highish boost will last in an automotive application - it's going to be held under boost for quite prolonged periods because the loads are soon much higher than in a motorbike.
My reference to the Motus motor was mostly in reference to the Scat. I think Scats are awesome, but geez, they're expensive, and still quite bulky. The motus is tiny and very light. 215Nm is plenty.
Building a highly strung N/A or worse, a highly strung boosted n/a motor is the last thing an off road car needs.

The Scat are also very aggressive and hard on the driveline. They'd shake a Suzuki apart

Im confused as to why someone would mount it that far forward. The best part of fitting a v twin is to center the mass

Because of the totally whack "adapter" that was fitted between the twin and the Sierra gearbox. From memory it was a complete mess.

Wouldnt a stock engine pumping out 230 rwhp be alot more pleasant and reliable ? Yeah the f20c is an awesome engine. I do agree. I jut think for a 4x4 engine the sr20ve makes more sense as parts are cheaper and easier to find. 200whp can be made cheaply and reliable and is enough for the application. The sr also makes power a little earlier in the rev range. That's all. Just cheaper and easier to get the typical things that crap out on a 4x4 like starters, dizzys and cas's, coils etc. all this can be found from the very common na fwd sr found at u pull it all over the country. Also it's easy to find cheap gearbox and clutch options which is important on a 4x4. It's all kinda mute anyway as the h27 is also a good option and what he seems to have gone with

As one of the few that has physically attempted the sr20 into sierra conversion i found it alot of work the whole proccess just kinda sucked it wasnt real happy in the sierra chassis. Hats of to those that have done it in a swb sierra i found a severe lack of space on a lwb god knows the effort to get it in a swb. For the power of a na sr20 i really felt for that much effort turbo gti or even god forbid a decent rotor would fit the bill better

Yep. We had a club member who built an SR20 1.0 SWB with a manual gearbox. Gosh it was tight. Same guy later built the same motor into a LWB with an auto and it was better, but a titanic amount of work to fit everything in.
Steve.

I moved all the tcase mounts back 250mm and had planned to brace the transfer to the gearbox and had a adaptor made, then realised another 6 months in the shed to make an illegal car (in w.a. anyway) wasnt what i wanted out of life. Changed everything back and had a jimny g13bb efi in and running in less than a week

Did you ever get it running?

F20c is a great engine, it wouldnt suit my type of wheeling very well, I just mentioned it with hopes that someone is bonkers enough to fit it
