what size tyres do you have?
$70 an hour is quite cheap.

check air filter isn't blocked and that the choke is turning off.

Just need to check basic stuff... Good plugs and leads - at $70 p/h you can afford to replace these yourself, whether it needs it or not.

As already mentioned, get it hot, whip the air inlet to the top of the carb off, and make sure the autochoke is coming off.
While you are there check/replace the air filter.

without putting it on a dyno and gas anyliser all you can really do is check for any external fuel leaks, check that the auto choke is completly off and adjust the carby mixture by 'feel', in other words screw the mixture screw all the way in till you notice it starts to idle a bit shit, then back it back out about 1/2 a turn.
