Would like to get it engineeredposible with 80 duffs? Bit wide? What did you do about the steering?

as the other blokes have said you will lose alot of clearance at your diffs unless you go BIG tyres or shaved housing etc. When a bloke in town here set his swb up on lux diffs with 35 simex's it had a fair bit less clearance than a mates zuk with 33 BF's and WT diffs.

I myself would like to do a diff swap one day but will probably do it on a wreck/trailored car rather than wrecking a zuk that works perfectly for me now.I dont know if im just lucky or some blokes just abuse cars way too much but i have never broken anything but my poorly welded locker on 31s.If your after strength and dont want to spend a heap just go cro mo??Mite save losing a once practical suzuki. Also think that in a swb its a waste as with the height you gain and bigger rubber if you dont stretch your wheelbase a bit it looks unsafe and probably drives the same

you have to run 36s to get clearence back? where's that info from?

There's 10mm difference between Hilux and Sierra diff clearence? unless my measurements are wrong? which may see Hilux diffs with 33s have the same clearence as Sierra diffs with 32s? or once the dude with Sierra diffs lets his tyres down he's lost 10mm anyway.

I wouldn't put big tyres on a swb sierra. Bigger diffs will give you some width which will be great for side angles, but a swb with big tyres is bad news for steep stuff.

ok your math maybe close steve.but when you sit in the ruts with both wheels you loose more clearance again. a sierra generally can't get both wheels in both ruts hence better diff clearance.
yep wide does give you that nice safe cuddly feel but at the expense of being able to drive ontop of the ruts.
I can see the upside in say a rock crawler or comp car but not in a general 4wd I think it would limit its performance in to many other areas give similar tyre sizes

I had big offset wheels on sierra diffs, and now normal offset wheels on hilux diffs and so it's exactly the same width, even a fraction narrower because it doesn't squeeze on the trailer so bad now.

i think anyone with big offset rims on sierra diffs will be very similar width to hilux with normal offset.

So i think the only main difference will be the position of the diff center on the rear only, strength and weight.

I'm not saying Brendan should get Hilux diffs though. I wouldn't get bigger diffs until you start really needing them. The more mods you do, the more other mods you have to do to cope with the first mods

Depends how much money, time and tools you have i guess. it's a never ending circle i think. Is it Friday yet?

My opinion. No.

I was scared that id be too tall and short. LIKE YOU NOW! Hense why i have bought a lwb.

Suzy atm is probably the width of a lux with rims off the shelf..

I am after strength and strength only.. I go through rear diff centres like um. butter? and bearings wear out something cronic on 33's.

So the diffs will get me bigger axles bla bla.

I want to be twin locked on rock on 35's/36's with no breakages. I can't see that happening on suz diffs.

My opinion, Yes. I've had no probs what so ever, at the end of the day your shit loads wider than what you are on zook diffs, and while i did the conversion i also moved the front diff forwards, and the rear diff back. Dont let those evil voices talk u out of it

I fully agree with BlueSuzy, i want to run big tyres but whats the point on running big tyres on zook diffs if all you do is destroy stuff???

Im only doing the conversion for reliability...

im not realy after strength at this stage would be nice but i have never broken anything. im just after the extra width. you might say its a big job to do a hilux diff conversion just for the width but if i did do the conversion i will run bigger tires and go fully locked and drive hard :)

but for now i think ill track down some big offset rims

I dont really agree with the breakages issue, I ran 32's in spoa and used to wrap springs like crazy, now im on 34's spua locked both ends I run 6.5 gears so no shortage of touque and I rev the piss out of the old girl no double toughs cv etc and no breakages.
I firmly belive if you treat you stuff like shit , shit is what you get.

I have only broken a side gear on my zook diffs and it was going from 5k spinning on dirt to rock, yep i treated it like rubbish for a while... but you can't tell me that zook diffs will hold up to 37s... (even with double toughs)

i haven't read the whole thread so sorry if i'm repeating what has been said.

what do you want? if its to be more stable on side angles do you still have your body lift in? thats won't be helping on a spoa car.

if its just more width, why? but just get some bigger off set rims but you will put more stress on your bearings.

if its 33's just get some and a bit of mechanical sympathy and you will be fine.

if you are running - 28 rims which id guess you are try the procomp rims on their site.some styles on their site do -44 and -50 offsets.

My mate had 33s and flipped rims on his zuk and used to eat up bearings with the extra load.Just remember the DD thingor leave it where its at now and drive it and enjoy it more.Shed time isnt fun

measure them.

your rims should have something like 15x7 jj stamped on them some where.

take one off put a flat edge on the back of the rim lip (300mm steel ruler) & measure down to the hub face & that will give you your back space measurement. from there you can work out the offset.

take some photo's of the rims, you might get lucky & someone might be able to see if they are 15x7's or 15x8's

Like i said. I have wear issues. My welded rear does not like to be thrashed. And i go through centres.

I havent had axle breakages from power wise etc. However i have spun a bearing and it popped out of the rear centre retainer and all, causing the centre to drop the carrier, snapping an axle.

I always listen to suzy while driving. I love driving her so i keep her up to shape even thou i have a daily ke30 better on petrol

And it really depends on the shit you are doing. Yeah you can get a bigger offset brendan. Try that 1st.

My suzy has the same width as norm84 (he used to be on ere abit) hiluxs on 35's. He had alloys so his offset wasnt a great deal.

Image

You've seen mine brendan. Mine are 15x8 -28 offset. Kingwheels. Biggest on shelf offset. And illegal.
