Did some beach fishing over the last week and my trusty CD/Radio player in the Vit has crapped itself.
I am after a replacement that's not too fancy and thought I would check in here first to see what other units people have fitted before I purchase one that doesn't fit. (My life story )
Any suggestions and advice greatly appreciated.

Ive got a pioneer deck, 6x9's in the rear wheel arch panels plus 4" speakers behind the seats and in the dash(factory). I wouldnt fit 6x9's as mine (sony explodes) dont sound that great. I would fit 6" there plus upgrade the 4 4" speakers, fit an amp if you can to get the most out of it.

Just upgraded both my Vitara and Sierra, JB Hi Fi had 30% off sales.

I didn't buy ones with cd player, went for iPod and Bluetooth.

Pioneer one was a bargin for $80 came with speakers.

Alpine one has Bluetooth.

Really like Alpine, never had one fail just upgraded.

Head units are so cheap now $150 will get you a good Alpine.

Had an old deck and the 'ole poxy clock.

Bought this double din unit off ebay. AM/FM, DVD, Digital TV tuner, USB, Handfree Bluetooth, reverse camera, GPS, aux camera input, RCA's for 4ch and 1 x subwoofer control, and also has full Android functions! Google maps, electronic speedo apps etc. Has really good interfaces for all the different functions too. All touch screen with tilt adjustable screen and DVD/CD slot behind. Had to do some mucking around with wiring, but that wasn't hard at all. It has been an awesome addition to the long trips!!

Currently looking at the Alpine and Pioneer options.
Am I going to encounter any wiring issues

Cheers Mate! At only $290 it was a cheap exercise considering all the features it has, and that was including all the bits like the reverse camera, GPS antenna, TV antenna and all wiring. Had it for over a year and not one issue.

Wiring is a breeze if you're just fitting a normal head unit. You would just splice in your new connector that you get with the new head unit, into your existing wiring. The wiring colours in your vehicle may differ, so grab a multimeter to verify.

The new head unit connector colours will be - Constant 12v (Yellow), Ground (Black), Accessories (Red) and your speaker wires...............DONE!
And if you get really excited you can tap into your dash light for dimming (Orange) the display, and amp remote wire (Light Blue).

Do you need an internet connection for the google maps? Does it take a sim?

Hey Vet,

No I run the maps if offline mode which works sweet. The unit has Wi-Fi and a sim slot. So when I'm at home I use Wi-Fi, but when I'm in the road it connects to my mobile which I have setup as a Wi-Fi hotspot.

I have had a few chinese dvd units, screen and dvd part always stuffs up in around 2 years, my current Eonon is going strong but after 3 years the dvd stoped working screen also does not move in and out but everything else works well. Sound is also pretty impressive.

I have philips HD speakers provide good deep bass and great overall sound without distortion have a sub but dont use it as no need mainly to save my boot space. I have fit these in a 1.6L vit as well. Could use Apline Marine speakers

http://philipscaraudio.com.au/speakers/csp611.html They come in 4" 5" 6" I think pioneer was the only other brand that made "GOOD" slimline speakers. Slim speakers may be needed to avoid the window hitting the magnet when wound down. Or use spacers.

Have also installed the bellow deck in my moms car darn good sound esp on max sound even without a amp. Always had philips decs in my previous cars before the suzuki and never had one issue from them, The cd player never minded rough corrigations either. It should fit right in with out any issues if you have the ISO din plug.
