I'm looking at buying this jimny

Low kms, looks like it's in top condition, 3 year warrenty.

There are a few thoughts I'm having. Is it worth the nearly 16k they are asking?

Would I be better buying a new 2015 model one with ETC and whatever else was upgraded?

If I were going to buy the new one, would I be better of to buy a higher km cheaper jimny, and wait till the proposed 2016 overhaul of the jimny takes place? And get the new one if its good? I'm guessing the value of the 2013 model one will drop the moment the new one comes out.

Any thoughts?

Im about to sell my grey 2006 model. Hoping to get $7500 for it.

It has 115000 kms, manual, 2 inch lift, bull bar, snorkel, bluetooth stereo, sierra steel wheels and in has just had the rear gear box bearings and output shaft replaced. G/box going in this weekend.

The bad, it is short on rego (10 March) and needs windscreen. Hence the cheaper price. They seem to be going for around $8500 -$9000 for similar spec cars.

Im only selling as SWMBO doesn't want to drive it anymore, she wants a swift

Re the new model, the differences are, ESC, different head rests, digital dash and different style front bar...

If you were not on the other side of the country I would be at your doorstep with 7500 bux. Maybe they are more popular in WA, they seem to be much higher priced.

WA is just higher priced in general.

the offer above would still be cheaper to bring over and put over the pits here in WA... transport is about $1k, new windscreen you'd have to price up but surely $500 would cover it??? then rego etc about $400 for a year???

what are you going to do to/with it?
my jimny was practically the same, 2 years old, 2000k on the clock when i bought it. then i modded it, cut it up, and have driven it through extreemly deep water.

in short, for what i do i would have been better off with a much older leafy which is easier to mod, and install a brand new aircon.

but
if you plan on doing light wheeling, and are not going to get the bug, chop your wheel arches off and run 30"+ tires it would be a good buy.

I wouldn't be doing super serious off-road. It would be my daily drive. I would like it to be able to do well on the beach

Good ol freight it over, guessing about a grand, as NSW rego is out on the 10th it gunna need rego anyway in WA.

That one looks pretty good.

Just one thing to point out, in case you do get the modifying bug later;
The new facelift Jimnys (with the bonnet scoop) have different chassis ends to all the older models. So bullbar options and aftermarket bolt on recovery points are a bit limited at the moment, but this will most likely change in years to come.


From what you've said here and in other threads; a Jimny (or even a short wheelbase GV) would be perfect for you.
You don't need massive lift, 235 tyres or modified transfer gears for anything you want to do.

A standard Jimny with a decent set of tyres (maybe 215s) will get you to all the waves.....

I can guarantee that 80mm lift didn't help him at all, if anything it would have made the car feel more tippy if he had to run along the side of the dunes at high tide.


Go for near standard, near new and save yourself the dramas.

Is the diff gearing all the same on stock manual jimnys? Or are some highway screamers? I used to run a 3.55 diff with a 3 speed and 202 engine in my pano. Screamed it's way home everyday

Well I guess they just filled the stereotype for used care salesman. "Like new" equals, smashed up bumber, gouged out side panels, evidence of hitting some serious hard objects on the bottom, an unknown amount of lift on it, and something to do with a sway bar, they couldn't tell me what. Screw that for a joke

Have a look for private cars. I'd recommend you check Auszookers' for sale section.

I've seen decent looking Jimnys for near sierra prices lately.
