Hey so id love to take my vitara to geraldton in April ( rather then the corolla) as id love to explore the beaches there, shes got 269,000km and uses almost no oil tho leaks a little, she will sit on 100 no worries tho struggles at 110, is there much of a risk with this sort of a drive? It's never overheated before on me, all fluids and filters have been replaced already, if she breaks down i have to pay rac $3.60 per km for 600km sooo thats not an option either- can i trust the clunky old zook? Or will i be in the "exciting" corolla cheers

If you live 30k's from work and use the Vit it only takes 10 days to do the same! For me it is only 4 trips to the shop

I wouldnt worry about a 4hr drive as long as its serviced and shown some love should be fine

If your confident taking out out on the beach. driving to geraldton should be no worries at all.
I did the west coast to Darwin in a sierra and the highway ks were by far the easiest on the car.

True point guys cheers, it's just that i dont know the service history for the last 250,000 km and she has 150psi across all 4- min specs say 170, not that compression will effect if i can trust it as such but I'm saying its old and tired as much is i hate to admit. i realy want to but breaking down realy isn't an option at the moment.

I've put some k's on my $300 G16A Vit. One recent trip was a 1600km round trip towing a trailer.
I had no dramas. I have everything a good check over. Mostly checked unis, bearings and all fluids.

Right thats everyone. I think at this stage I'll get the i is done (slack as) and swap my rear diff for my spare with no backlash and get her tuned and just go for it

At that age, if you have changed the oil and replaced the timing belt at factory intervals, it should keep on going.

If it makes ticky-tappet noises, it would not hurt to adjust the valve clearances back to spec. One of mine is making a bit of noise at 43,000 km after a rebuild.

Its only 440 ks to the other side if Gero? And the RAC would tow it to the nearest mechanic, or somewhere you chose, so you wouldn't HAVE to tow it all the way back to Perth.

Go for it.Just don't thrash it.... and check all the oils and waters regularly.

Just took my 93 lwb vit (379k km) up to Kalbarri last week even stopped by lucky bay for some 4x4. The previous owner looked after the car very well. I brought coolant etc just in case didn't even have to use it. Like the others have said make sure you check all the basics before you leave

I live in Geraldton, it's not a big drive and there's lots of places/motorists to give you a hand if need be.. I take my Sierra on the trip pretty regularly..

I'd take any POS jalopy on the drive, but then I like to take old POS jalopys on long drives just for fun.
