hi everyone , I've just bought myself a 1999 jlx jimny as a daily driver work bus and mild play rig to get me to the best down mountain bike spots in tasmania , its a g13bb manual
i want to fit 30/9.5/16s km2s if i fit a automatic transfer from a similar year automatic will this give me enough high and low range reduction for these or do i save and go the wide track route cheaper would be better

the auto and manual transfer cases and diffs in the non vvt jimnys are the same ratio, so no it wont give you any change in reduction.

could put newer 4.3 diffs under it and get 5%

Sure about that? Thought there was 25% diffrence in all models?

only the manual vvt had the 1:1 transfer and 4.3 diffs from what i understand

Transfers are the same ratio pre VVT (1.32:1). VVT auto has the same high range ratio and diff gears (4.1) as all pre VVT, just with a lower low range(2.6 vs 2.145).

Only VVT manuals got the high ratio transfer (1:1) and lower diff gears (4.3) because of the direct drive 5th gear gearbox.

To the OP, a sierra transfer case conversion would be perfect.

the guy i bought this one from has a vvt model manual jimny and he swaps a auto jimy case in to use offroad , he said it drops the ratio considerably around 30% i just wanted to know if my gearbox ratios are the same .
