I have been working my way through my options or getting a jimny. I have now found something a bit older. It's s 2000 model. I understand that these are very similar to the current day jimny. My main question is in regards to the engine. Are those older engines ok? I read somewhere on this forum that the blocks have a tendency to crack if overheated. This one has just over 170000 on the clock. It's a JX if that makes a difference. Other then the engine are there many other differences that I should consider? I'm inspecting it on the weekend, as far as I know it's in stock form, been used for round town and highways kms only for the last 70,000km. Asking price 6k
Any thoughts?

no engine likes being overheated. if there's no evidence that its occurred it wouldn't factor into my decision.
jx means no carpet to clean or eletronics (windows and mirrors) to screw up
can swap the diffs for vvt manual ones to get some reduction if you go to bigger wheels.

JX is pleb spec

Pretty much all alloy blocks and heads can crack if overheated etc
I wouldn't be concerned about it at all

Manual or auto? Make sure auto oil colour and smell is good

g13bb jimny readily accepts g16b (with BenT adapter kit)
Sierra transfers with kit can go in

I will be giving it a good looking over for signs of overheating. I think it's pretty unlikely as it's still being driven everyday at the moment.

imo $6,000 is too much money for that. i didn't buy mine very long ago, was $5,000, 2000 model with G13B, included an ARB bull bar & compressor with 100,000ks on the clock.

the engine was fine to pull the car when i bought it, in 5th doing 100ks you could put your foot down & it'd still have tons of poke. now with 215/75 tyres & a 2" lift though it bogs down & i'm doing the G16 conversion & hoping to eventually do a sierra t/case.

i'm in SA, in the eastern states they seem cheaper again. not long ago there was a jimny the same as mine in gawler here in SA that already had the G16 fitted with an asking price of $4,000 iirc, car itself was over 200,000ks though.

how desperate are you for a jimny ? maybe just keep an eye on gumtree or keep posting here, something will come up, maybe even consider travelling or fly across, view/test drive car & have it shipped back ?

Heres my problem, I just moved to WA. I drove my (good conditioned) panelvan over with me. I just started working full time as a teacher in a bit of a rough school. I'm currently driving my panelvan to and from work 40 mind each way and the V8 is chewing through the juice. But the bigger issue is it only takes the wrong kid at the school to not like me and my car will start getting keyed. As my panelvan is pretty mint, this would make me pretty pissed. So the sooner I get another car I save on juice and stop risking my panelvan. I'm opting for the jimny because they are good on fuel and it can take me to the surf on the weekend. That's why I'm chasing one down

I just sold my 2006 VVT with 113000 klms with bull bar, lift, snorkel and bash plate for $5000. Cant see how a 2000 is worth anywhere near that...
