Until coilies, sieras didn't have side intrusion bars, therefore not having a door makes no difference legally.
You still need rear view mirrors though, plus having no doors makes you a cop magnet anyway. There is no guarantee that they will understand that you can be doorless...

Techanicaly you can run doorless as there was no side intrusion bars.
But last week I spoke to a guy high up in engineering of modded vehicles in NSW and he said yes you legaly can but...
You COULD be booked under some clause that states you cannot make a vehicle more unsafe than it origanaly was.
So he suggest just make up half doors.
I think that running doorless on a modded zuk may not be a good idea  they may not be able to get you for it but what else could they get you for..

how are sierras with no intrusion bars any different to the thousands of other cars without intrusion bars?

Are you telling these people the doors are held on by BOLTS!!!! they dont just lift off?

likewise how about the ADR for burst proof door latches? if you dont have to have doors you still have to have the latches

I've driven plenty of Km's with no doors, and I have had conversations with police about it.

Yes, AFAIK it is legal.

A) because there's no ADR relating to door design until intrusion bars were required.

B) because the external hinges imply the doors were designed to be removed.

C)Because there was no fundamental change in ADR between sierras between the LJ80 (available with canvas doors) and mini moke (available with no doors) up until the introduction of intrusion bars.

A club member in victoria had discussions with Canberra in relation to this issue and it's a fact - so long as mirrors are fitted there's no reason why you can't run doorless, likewise, it's 100% legal to run with the windscreen folded.

However, I'm not a huge fan of no doors. It seems to pull more dust into the car, I've frequently scratched my legs on blackberries etc, and obviously you're not slowing down the speed mud comes in the car at all.

Junk seems to fall out the car all the time too.

My preference is 1/2 doors. I've gutted the internals of them and run a 32NB steampipe along the top of the cut. I ended up with masses of interior storage, very strong doors, a roomier cab, and some amount of water sealing.

Steve.

OK I have dug a bit further

Applicable ADR's, ADR 2, burst proof door latch, ADR 29, side intrusion.

Category MC (off road passenger vehicles) are what sierras are classed as

ADR 29, applicable after JUL 1997
ADR 2 and ADR 2/00, applicable 1st June 1971

So if it had doors it has to comply to ADR 2, take the doors off it no longer complies, if it never had doors it didnt have to comply

So there :finger:

Vitaras, Landcruisers, Patrols, all same category so all as likely as each other to be allowed to run without doors, seriously do you think just cause the hinges are on the outside of a car that it makes it more special than another one? why do the hinges have sealing gunk on em and thread locked fasteners holding them on?

Do you need to run a rear door on a SWB?

So from that you would be able to run tube doors as long as you had an ADR approved lathc? like you can buy them new though a couple of vendors, BBM is one of them, and if they are used there should be no adr that isnt being spplied to.

So, you need doors!
