Are there any easy to see tell tail signs to differentiate between WT and NT sierra transfer case? I bought one as a WT to transfer into the Jimny but just wanted to double check exactly what I have I was told there are 5 different types of transfer case?

WT won't have a handbrake assembly on the rear output, NT will, but is removable (need a rear output flange from a WT to do it though). Flange bolt pattern is different WT to NT too, Everything else about the cases are identical.

i'm keen on a sierra t/case as well for my jimny. what sierra am i looking at, been reading this WT & NT over & over, but what year or what does the car look like if you don't mind sharing ??

Metal flares usually gives it away, although some people put WT flares on a NT. '89 - '96

I am assuming you want the WT case. Most of the time wide tracks have wide metal flares, as opposed to the narrow track's thin black plastic flares.

Wide track started mid way though 88. Other than that you can spot wider spring spacing (offset slightly off the chassis, as opposed to directly under it) and later model grills.

thanks guys, will be something i keep an eye on gumtree for if someone is wrecking a sierra nearby. so WT (i'm guessing is the 5% approx) of 89-96-ish. thanks.

My transfer case (the sierra one I bought) has a plug with 2 wires coming out of it - does this mean anything in determining what year model it is and what gear sets can be bought for it? I read that there are 3 different WT transfers?

I tried putting a photo up of what I have but its not working for me

Where do you keep getting the idea there are all these different variants. There aren't.

1.0 litre non-switch case- no good to you, doesn't accept gears. 1.58/2.55 gearing.
1.0 litre switch case- accepts gears, small flange pattern, drm handbrake. 1.58/2.55 gearing
1.3 NT case- accepts gears, small flange pattern (bigger than 1.0- uses jimny/1.3 Sierra/Vitara unis, drum handbrake, 1.409/2.21 gearing
1.3 WT case- accepts gears, Vitara/jimny flange pattern, no handbrake, 1.409/2.21 gearing.

There are a TINY number of early wide track cases which have the NT flanges but no handbrake.

The only difference from your point of view between ALL leaf 1.3 cases are the flanges and they can be swapped easily and/or you can swap NT yokes onto your jimny driveshafts as the unis are the same.
