yeh some say its only 27%, but if you do the maths based on GPS speeds and engine RPM (two controlled outputs of standalone systems) you get closer to 32%, which is what the manual says it is anyway...

Just FYI a reduction gearset can be put together by using gears and chain from an Auto VVT into a Manual VVT without changing the whole box. Suzuki are selling this kit here in Brazil, but it's about 30% reduction 8-P
Have you got the part numbers for those bits?
Whats the difference between this and swapping to an Auto box?

you dont have two boxes, one in the car and one on the shelf. you have spent similar money, have less redundancy (dog clutch +planetary set) and have your old 1:1 gears in a bag full of gears, chain, oil and grease somewhere safe, but you cant remember where 'safe' was.

$1400??? What happened to the $5-600 you were talking about 6 months ago?
I'd have to go back and check, but I think it was for the Hi/Lo set only and required sending your own gear for modification. It was decided that this would not be suitable for most people to have their box out of action for the round trip. So, he'd like to avoid this option.
The low range planetary gear will be available separately.

Just to reiterate... The chain in an auto box is about 5mm narrower, so will stretch quicker. Count the gears on the 2 gears of the set. In an Australian auto Jimny, this works out to be 1:1.27 and 1:2.54 (27% reduction from a manual).

I've been looking it gearing options for a while and have recently come across some handy info and I think this is the best thread to share it on.
I stumbled across this page during one of the late nights translating Japanese webpages; Switch 4x4 (translated) Switch 4x4 There is heaps of cool stuff on that site.
*The following refer to vehicles in the Japanese market, there are many variations that we don't have in Australia.
List of most Suzuki models and their gearing ratios (I can't verify accuracy);
These are the Japanese models for Jimnys if you're looking for parts on any .JP sites;
As best I can tell (and I'm happy to be corrected) the Australian equivalents are; JB33 - 1 type= G13bb Jimny JB43-2,3 and 4 type= M13a Jimny with manual (lever operated) transfer JB43-5 type and higher= M13a VVT Jimny with push button transfer
And these are the gearing options available from Japanese suppliers for our Jimny models;
I'm running 215 tyres on my VVT Jimny and it's the misses daily, so can't see us going a much bigger tyre size for a while. If you've seen my build threads you'd know we do a lot of touring in the Jimny and lot of the km we do these days are towing the trailer.
I could maybe get away with a 15% high/low reduction, but I wanted better low range. The 27% (or greater) reductions are waaaay too much for my smaller tyres.
So I've been looking at low only reductions and options with a small high range reduction (like 7%) and a really good low range.
Now with help from Jesse Streeter I have a set of Zeal 77% low range only gears on the way from Pro Staff in Japan...
I gotta say Jesse is awesome to deal with. I'd been trying to make contact in English with ProStaff my self with no response. Then I asked a Japanese friend to help with communication, but I still wasn't getting anywhere. I sent Jesse an email with a link and very clear a part description of what I was looking for. Within an hour I got a quote back from him for exactly what I wanted. After a couple of quick emails back and forth, I had the parts I wanted ordered with ProStaff less then 8 hours after my first contact with him. Legend.

I've got the Zeal 77% low only gears coming from Japan, it was about $950 including shipping for these. The 15%H 105%L sets are nearly double that.
But these Zeal 15/105 Hi/Low sets are still cheaper then the APIO 58star gears (58% low only). I noticed people were quoting about $2000 for the APIO gears 2 or 3 years ago, they still cost that much today.
The low only gears is all I need for now, but I can get the 15/15 hi/low gears later and get the full fruit if I run bigger tyres later.

Will I swap my Trialjimny 20% High/Low manual jimny case for a m18 and the guy put the case in new jimny with 215 75 15 does 4180 rev at 100 so it should be good for 30/31

yeah 20% is way too much for 215s.
That protrack set with 7%H and 77%L looks perfect for a VVT Jimny running 215-225 tyres. Looks like they've only just been released in December, so we'll probably hear reports on how they go soon enough.
I went with the Zeal set because they're made in Japan, been on the market for a while and there's heaps of Japanese build threads with good reviews for them.

20% would be better in my setup than your auto case

I was never planning on selling them but I found a cheap non vvt gearbox and a really cheap wt tc and jimny conversion kit that was more suitable for our needs but I had to source the parts first which has taken a few years otherwise i would of sold it years ago.
Exactly, Protrack gear sets are new on sale. But they have been working for a long time in these kits. The final price can be similar to Zeal sets so I understand your choice very well. For me I had only 2 options: Apio58 or Protrack -60% kit and the final cost for the apio58 is the double
The 27% Protrack gear set looks like a possible option for me, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to contact them?? I need to make sure that the 27% reduction is also available for auto.
Otherwise the 25% TrialJimny kit looks like the only option for an auto 2012 Jimny? (I'm looking for around 3500rpm@100km/h, atm it's around 2800...drafting a truck...on a steep downhill...)

Just to confirm; you CANNOT use the APIO 58 star (58% low only) gears in the push button transfer.
The only options for push button transfers that I've found so far are;
Zeal (Japan) - * 77%L only * 15%H and L * 15%H and 104%L
Protrack (Greece) - *70%L only *7%H and 77%L *17%H and 87%L *27%H and 97%L
Trialjimny (???) * 20%H and L * 35%H and L
As far as I can see it is possible to combine the low only sets with the high/low sets that do equal reduction.
For example, The last post on this page from a German build thread were the guy already had Trialjimny 27%H/L reduction gears installed, then fitted the Zeal 77% low only as well. He calculates the new final low range ratio of 4.48.
Looks like there is options to get proper crawl ratios in a push button Jimny transfer after all...
