Hi guys,

I've been trawling the search function but can't find anything specific to what i'm after.

I have a '91 SWB Sierra which I'm doing the tried and true G16B to. The donor motor is from a 91 Vit and is a 16v with original loom & ecu.

This specific motor has the intake manifold with inlet facing the passenger side of the car however I've seen many photos of G16's with a log style intake manifold which has an inlet facing the radiator (and thus much better piping to the airbox & snorkel etc).

Does anyone know what the log style manifold is off, if it'll fit on the Vit G16B 16v, if it'll require major wiring changes or a different AFM, TB (or a custom ECU?). I haven't started the loom conversion now, still trying to isolate the correct wiring diagram and how-to on what needs and doesn't need to be connected. Only managed to strip all the heatshrink and tape from the loom exposing connectors and wire colours.

Mainly interested as I have to pull the motor back out tomorrow anyway and I'm probably going to strip it and give it a quick once over so I can guarantee the condition of it. (Car is for the missus), figured it can't hurt to fix the intake path at the same time.

Thanks for any responses!

Hi mate,

As far as i'm aware the forward facing intake came out of the suzuki baleno, the manifold will bolt on without issue but im sure ive read that the wiring is different. I may be wrong but there is no real advantage in running that intake manifold besides it facing forward, Air box location and maybe making it easier to get the rocker cover off. Happy to be corrected tho......

I'm pretty sure you can swap all the sensors over.
biggest turd factor is you need the baleno thermostat output, which is straight out the back of the block.

I have a spare baleno intake manifold, a vit manifold with all the sensors, if i have time today, ill try swapping it all over.

Im its a good idea, vit intake manifold is very high, mine rubs on my bonnet, but my Sierra doesnt have a body lift

As stated previously, jimny intake manifold is the best of both worlds

I'm chucking on a Jimny manifold, that way you don't need a bodylift to clear the vitara manifold. Pretty much the same as a baleno manifold.

So if I get a g13bb intake manifold off a Jimny upto about 2004 I guess I should be right? Then I can just thread in the sensors off the vit manifold and should hopefully be sweet?

That will fix SO MANY PROBLEMS with intake routing. This is why I love car forums.

You can bolt up the jimny/baleno manifold on and use the vit sensors on em but you will still need to retain the air flow meter and mount that somewhere before the throttle body.

Its quite simple to gain enough clearance between the vit manifold and bonnet without a bodylift by trimming/grinding the high spots on the manifold and/or re-drilling/opening up the engine mounting holes

The problem isn't clearance. The car has 2 inch susp lift, 2 inches of shackle lift and 2 inches of body lift. It's the 180 degree bend out of the vit manifold that tickles my OCD in a big way when the snorkel air intake is from the drivers side. Passing the intake over the top of the radiator fan just ... no.

Do you think you will have enough space to route the jimny intake to your snorkle with the air flow meter in the loop?

AFM is like 3 inches long, I can attach it more or less anywhere as it's inline. From what i've seen of it it should be fine.

The baleno one works but there is no provision for thermostat at the front of the manifold like the jimny one.
