So I'm looking at buying a set of 215/75r15 All terrains for my 2008 Jimny. So far I've had a look at the BFG A/T and the bloke at Bob Jane says they're better than gold. However I have a hard time trusting sales people. People who running BFG A/T tyres on a Jimny what do you think of them? And also what other tyres would you recommend.

You will need to tell us what terrains you drive and what your end goal is... if you want it to drive like a race car on the road, or if you're not so fussed about on the road but need it to grip in mud etc etc

Mostly on road as its my daily drive, offroad it'd be on the beach and dirt/gravel tracks. Not much mud since where I live it doesn't rain very often.

IMO you're likely better off sticking with a highway tyre mate. Maybe up it to a 215/75 to get a bit more flotation on sand, but stock performs great on sand, and going up in size will affect the gearing and speedo/odometer readings.

Personally i think Kumho tyres are great.. They're cheap but great quality and tend to have lower load ratings which is great for smaller vehicles.

Righto, ill have a look at the kumho's, I'm pulling more towards A/Ts but ill definitely look at highway terrains as well. Also, where is the tyre thread in the forum?

I have the Hankooks in an MT and think they are fine. Take a look to see if they make an AT in that size. BFGs are good but are they worth the additional $s

I personally wouldn't buy BFG tyres new due to their high pricing for what they are. Secondhand for a good price is another thing entirely but as Mike^^^ said you can get new MTs in quality brands for the same price. I'm not sure if they are available in that size but I do know the new Dueler MTs in a 235/75R15 are the same price as the BFG A/T in 215/75R15 and 235/75R15 ($199ea) in the current Bob Jane catalogue. You can get Hankook MTs for around the $180-200 mark in your size.

IMO you aren't losing any handling ability in a good quality new MT. Adding noise yes but also adding equally as much capability. I am about to retire an 8 year old set of Hankook MTs I bought secondhand and have put at least 60,000km on a couple of them and they still have a few mm of tread left. They have certainly lasted and since mixing them with the old BFG MTs I suspect they are a more robust tyre also!

bfg all terrains the old pattern sucks on the road they are so dangerous in the wet i think they are worse than my coopers and they are like ice skates. i dont know what the new bfg all terrain pattern is like though. with handling wise if you were going to choose the bfg i also think you are better off with a mt my federals handle better in the wet than the bfg and the coopers and they are about 4 years old now.

I have bfg ats on my pajero , no idea if there new or old patten , I'd guess at old pattern though as they really are like ice skates in the wet. There scary bad.

I've got a set of 235/75r15 maxxis M/T and they're good. But I'm looking at fitting the 215s and I don't see the point of going for a muddy again. Ill still use the maxxis I have but not as my daily tyre. The bfg A/T at bob jane are $199 a tyre as reubs said. I've also looked at falken A/T but I'm not sure what they are like.

I have just bought a set of the Falken Wildpeak AT's in a 235/70/16. They have been awesome on the road in the wet, and float sweet on the sand. Good pricing and very happy with them!

I'd suggest that nobody has the "new" pattern yet of BFG A/T's(KO2) - I believe they are only just coming on stream. In any case, other than the sidewall treatment it's effectively the same as the "old" pattern (KO) which is effectively the same as A/T's since the late 1980's. I ran A/T's in the mid 1990's, didn't find them bad in the wet. My dad ran three or four sets on hiluxes and 80 series right up until about 2012 or something - never had any complaints.



(Note the KM3, which is also effectively the same as the KM2 with stone ejectors and a slightly different sidewall treatment)

I've just put Toyo Open Country AT2's on my Defender, and I'm very happy with them. Very round, smooth, and quiet. I'd definitely recommend them. (I think they have a 75,000km guarantee on them too, not really an issue for a Suzuki though)

I suppose there will always be complaints about all tyres, as far as I'm concerned however, no tyre can be as bad as the set of GT Radials All terrains I had before. I've had a look at the Silverstones and I'll definitely check out the falkens as well the BFGs.

the hankook ATs look really aggressive for an AT & come in 215/75 iirc. i have the MTs & haven't had any issues so far (but only been on the car for maybe 6 months).

The Hankook is nice tyre. But I think he's after an A/T since it's a daily drive and mostly beach/gravel.

I've had these on my XL-7 for a couple of years now http://www.yokohama.com.au/Tyres/Geolandar-ATS.aspx They're actually better on the bitumen than the previous Bridgestone HT's - especially in the wet. They also give a nice ride (at the expense of some steering response, but it isn't race car anyway!) I notice they've got a buy 3, get the 4th free promotion at the moment. I've used them on gravel roads and in sand - I've found them very good.

Only problem is they don't appear to list your preferred size.

I would prefer the geolanders in a 195/80 r15 over BFG At's for what the op wants. The bfgs are great because the are puncture resistant, last a long time and well proven. On a bigger heavier truck they are a good tire to run, but for what the OP wants I would go the geolanders. People like them in sand here and they are much cheaper than bfgs
