I Looked at a sierra ute today, had a 1.6 carb motor fitted obviously an upgrade and has front drum brakes. I was just wondering what year/model it was and general specs when it was released. I couldn't get near the plate as it was against a fence so couldn't even get a year or model code. I was hoping there might be a model list on here with all the general specs against each model.

Drum front end means an early 1.0 sierra. (Circa 1982-1983)

Model will be SJ410T. Drum front end also means no 4wd light switch on the transfer case, so transfer case gears can't be fitted to this type of transfer case.

Swapping a 1.6 into this model is much harder than a 1.3 sierra, I'd be surprised/interested as to why anyone would upgrade the motor from 36kw to 55kw but wouldn't upgrade the brakes. Those front drums are terrible.

Oh, also, I think it's quite difficult to fit a 1.6 without a body lift in a 1.0 Sierra. The flat bonnet in a 1.0 means there's no room without a largish bonnet scoop.

All up, I'd approach with caution.

Thanks Steve, explains why the carb hat was off sitting on the bonnet when I arrived, any idea how much body lift would be required? Im not a huge fan of lifting unless its really required. If I could get away with 2" max its probably alright. Will a wide track bonnet fit the NT clip or can I fit a WT front clip to the NT? There is a NT disc brake front diff that comes with it.

Sounds like a bucket of hassles to me. If the price is right, go for it, but be prepared to do a lot of rework. 1.6 into 1.0 is a bit of a pain.

A 1.3 bonnet can fit, but even then it can be a very tight squeeze depending on how engine mounts have been done.

Also take into account 1.0 sierras have unboosted brakes and the early 1.0 type is very hard to fit a booster to. This might be an issue for certification. (I assume it's not approved/registered?)
