hi guys .. i got a 91 vitara that i fitted led dash lights to ... prob is that they seem to come on and go off randomly.. dont know why every other dash light works fine .... i suspected it might of been the dimmer switch as LEDs dont like being dimmed ...but cant find it ...my owners book says it has one .. but dont tell me where it is

It's a knob on the dash that you rotate - so if you can't find it, it's probably not there.

Dimmable dash lights were (are?) an ADR requirement for passenger vehicles. Not sure when the requirement was introduced.

I believe 1995?
My sierra is a 92 and doesn't have it, however my 95 mazda 323 was dimmable.

This said - the clause appears to have been removed from the ADRs???

http://www.comlaw.gov.au/Details/F2006L02738
- go to section 18.4.3 which used to cover dimmable dash. Perhaps this is to do with the advent of LED dash screens etc?

Page 7 of this document would appear to indicate it was repealed in 2003:

Is the spot for it blanked off, that you could get the knob and dimmer switch off a wreck and fit it?

Is it possible you're mis-interpreting the manual - maybe there's an asterisk pointing to a note that says "if fitted" or "optional" or something similar? Every Suzuki owner's manual I have shows the location of a dash dimmer (and switches for fog lights, cruise control & heated seats) yet not one of the cars they came with have ever had these options (who needs heated seats in the Caribbean?)

My 93 Vit don't have a manual dimmer.
But all dash lights, illuminated switches etc dim once headlights are switched on.

no the owners manual shows the dash controls BUT dont show where the switch is...only on the next page it shows a drawing of one saying turning will dim the brightness...

Are there any other controls in the manual that you're not seeing? The manuals will typically show most or all of the options, whether or not they're actually fitted to the vehicle.

In my case, my 98GV is missing - in addition to the dash dimmer, the height adjustable headlights, cruise control, heated seats and rear fog lights - apparently, even though the front bumper has cutouts for front fogs, those were not an option on a 98.

Neither of my 1997 SV's have dash light dimmers... both were unmolested, but the SE's did.
