I got this death wobble every now and again would my steering damper Cause it as it is leaking oil?

No. take the damper off and throw it away. It will only hinder diagnosing the problem.
Check for kingpin bearing preload, (This is NOT play, it's knuckle starting torque) and worn knuckle seals.

Then go to wheel bearing tension. Steering box play, and/or worn tie rod ends and shackle rubbers.

It's most likely flogged out kingpin bearings and worn seals - you're driving a 21 year old car and the front ends rarely even get properly rebuilt.

If you don't actually want to fix the wobble, replace the steering damper. this will allow you to drive the car until the wheels fall of from neglect without having death wobble.

If you fix the wobble with no steering damper fitted, you can then be confident it's properly sorted. Feel free to replace the damper if you really feel like it. Personally, I prefer the feel of the steering without the damper.

Steve is correct when he says the damper won't cause any wobble.
Usually is is kingpins etc but you may have a bent tie rod. Excessive toe in or toe out will cause a wobble too.
