Hey guys
I will be looking at a sierra tomorrow night.
It is a !989 model with a 3 inch lift and a ali bullbar.
It has got 340,000km on the little 1.3L which i was a little skeptical about but i was planning on doing a 1.6l conversion which will be my next question.
The guy wants 2k ono is that a reasonable price?
Is it worth taking to a mechanics to chuck up on the hoist and having a look over or am i just being over cautious?
As a follow up question how hard is it to do a 1.6L conversion and what will the rough cost be if done at home.

Cheers

$2k is a great price if there's no serious issues / rust etc.

Ended up getting it for 1800
Nice rig stock as a rock but good mechanically and not to much rust.

A BenT adapter kit is $200

Then of these two
A g16a (carby) conversion is basically the cost of the g16a.
As you can use the sierra intake manifold and exhaust etc. The power increase is ok.
Very easily and quickly done.
Carbies are problematic, and most prefer to go efi.

A g16b (efi) conversion
Need the intake manifold, possibly airbox, ecu, wiring, efi fuel tank and new exhaust manifold etc.
Its a lot more work, and a lot more expensive.
The efi is great, much better power and torque. Dont have problems on angles etc and no icing issues in the cold.
Best off buying a donor car, assembling from cheapo bits gathered over time also works, but will be a total PITA!

I have had both, both assembled from bits and pieces etc gathered over time.
I wouldnt do a g16a again, and i probably wouldnt bastardise engines etc again.
I have a donor car waiting for my next sierra.

Im definitely keen on doing more research into the g16b conversion
If i was to buy a Vitara with the g16b would that include most of the parts other than the adaptor kit.
Do you know of any good sites i could do so reading up on the conversion and wiring?

This one.

If you aren't familiar with wiring, someone like Killa Kustom Kables will return your loom to you ready to plug-n-play into the sierra for ~$500-ish.
