hey all have got a rear axle seal problem im guessing?? i have oil dripping out of the housing and into my brakes.My brake shoes on the rear are pretty worn tho so im replacing them anyways,drum seems in good condition still.also rear wheel bearing seems fine so is the seal what im chasing and any tips as ive never done one....thanks

does anyone have a part number?

Definately the seal...
Any parts place should have them.

You will need to remove the backing plate to remove the axle, so oyu will need to bleed the brakes afterwards... Buy a bottle of brake fluid while you are out.

There is nothing too tricky, just take your time.

While you are in there, you can mod the backing plates and install some of the SJ410 Backing Plates on this page - http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/samaxles.htm

That way you can remove axles without having to bleed your brakes.

I wish I had put those in when i replaced the bearings and seals.

that looks like a good idea but ill go without it for now.You shouldnt of put the lowrange link up,now i want to spend money again :lol:

Ordered my rear brake shoes and seals etc today.$26 seal at one place,$7 at another :?

search for rear wheel bearing replacement will give pics and a run down as to the install ;)

Im pretty sure i included part numbers as well....

fark $26 for a seal that costs <$1.00 thats robbery

$7.00 bux sounds fair, and there will be little to no difference in quality between brands

$2.85 at a bearing place on Lynton rd near Cannon Hill :lol:
