Hey lads, mates coily transfer is fucked so I told him he should swap to a leafy case. What is needed for the swap? From what I've read 1ltr case is the go and we'll just need the jackshaft as well?
Also what will the gearing be like with the 1 ltr case? Lower/higher?
Any suggestions welcome
Cheers

Gearing will be usefully lower, depending on which transfer/gears yo use. You need a leaf transfer case, jackshaft and front driveshaft. Coil sierra: Low 2.123 High 1.320
1.3 Sierra Low 2.21 High 1.409
1.0 Sierra Low 2.55 High 1.58
If you use a 1.0 transfer you'l'l need to mess with flanges as the 1.0 flange pattern in smaller. Flanges can be swapped using ones from a 1.3 WT case, but not coil flanges as the spline profile/depth etc is different.

Ok thanks Steve, so if we went 1.3 case it'd be straight bolt on with 1.3 jackshaft and front drive shaft no messing with flanges? Does it matter if it's NT or WT?

Needs to be WT to bolt straight in. NT flanges are smaller than WT (but larger than 1.0 litre) Also, NT has a transfer mounted park brake that needs to be eliminated or hooked up. However, it's easy to swap WT and NT yokes and flanges as the splines and unis are all the same.
1.0 sierra uses internally circlipped unis that are only sort-of compatible with the 1.3/coil/vitara external clip unis.
Steve.

Also good to note that if you find a non switched 1L case (no 4wd light switch) it has smaller spline count and WT (and coiliy) flanges wont fit. You can still fit them by mixing yokes and unis. you still will need the WT Jack shaft and front Driveshaft but also the yokes and unis from the 1L, and either gut out or machine off the drum brake.
I've fit a couple of them over the years, but avoid a non switched 1L case unless you happen across all the right bits (basically tc and driveshafts) in one place for cheap and a better option isn't readily available.

Cheers lads, think we'll go with the easiest 1.3 case.

You will need the WT mounting arms also. Coily ones are different.
