Hi guys.
I have been wiring spotlights up to my 94 lwb vitara and while trying to wire up to the high beams, I had a lot of trouble. I am in no way an auto electrician, but when using a test light all three wires running to the head lights appeared to be live? My old man told me that this would most probably be because I am earthing it back to the battery that it created a false curcuit or something? Haha
They are currently wired directly to a switch so I can currently use them, but would ideally like to have a switch and wired to the high beams.
My question is, I have been doing some research and have found a few things online that said if I connect the high beam wire (meant to be an earth?) to the ground/earth of the relay that it will then be wired into the high beams.
Can anyone confirm this?

Zooks are negatively switched. It's a common mistake to assume they are positively switched.

Thanks Scrawn.
Just need clarification on one more thing now...
If I want to run them through the high beam but also with a switch, would I just need to connect the switch to the standard spot for a switch rather than bridging over from the constant 12v wire?
I want to do this just incase, for any reason, I need to run the high beams without the spot lights.

Ive got them all wired up and they work with the earth for the relay connected to the body (normal earth)... If I was instead to connect the earth I already have to the high beam wire (the high beam earth) instead of to the body, from my understanding that should be exactly the way that the people on that link have told me to with the addition of the switch that I want to put in.

To me they are all a brain explosion haha.
Is there any reason why connecting my current earth/ground from the relay to the high beam earth wire wouldn't work?
Just wanna make sure I have everything correct.

I normally run one wire from the high beam wire at the head light to the switch. Then from the other side of the switch back to pin 85. Pin 86 just needs a constant power which I loop off pin 30.
