Just wondering if anyone has fitted an XL7 H27A alternator which you can get in 105amp to a H25A GV. I've done a search on this forum and others and can't find the answer. They have the same front end and same engine block so should just be bolt on hey? Any one know if you just need the XL7 alternator or the XL7 bracket as well?

With my spotties drawing 37amps plus my fridge and dual battery setup and planning a sound system install soon I'm finding that theres not much wiggle room with the stock 80amp alt.

Otherwise does any one know of any aftermarket high output alternators for the GV or ones from other cars that will bolt on?

I haven't tried it yet (because I haven't needed to, yet), but, based on looking at the drawings in the manuals, I'd like to believe that the alternators on the J20, H25 & H27 can be interchanged - I'll take a look at the parts manuals and see if the brackets on the H25 & H27 are the same number & get back to you.

You're running 450W in spot lights

The alternator bracket & adjusting arm on both vehicles are the same part number - I see no reason why you should not be able to swap the alternator as planned.

Thanks. Further research on a few eBay 105amp alternators has them replacing part numbers for aftermarket alternators for the GV. A few even say 2.5/2.7.

In theory, yes, I have not attempted it.

Based on the FSM, my J20a Grand Vitara has a 70A alternator.
