I want to put a locker in the rear of my grand vitara but I would like to not touch the front diff. Is it possible to put a vitara third member and ring and pinion with 4:3 ratio (the same as the front) in and not have any problems? Cheers

I'm a little puzzled here - would it not be simpler to just put an RD209 in your existing rear differential?

Depending on whom you speak with, it will either bolt right in, or, you may need to machine the ring gear ID to clear the locker housing.

I think its the other way around. Nothing that officially fits the GV front.

Read the footnotes under the Suzuki section and make of it what you will.

Yeah so a vitara rear third member with 4:3 gears will fit a diff lock and not effect the front at all?

As long as the ratios are the same there will be no dramas.

There are other issues with the front diffs in early GVs that relate to the 4wd engagement mechanism slipping under high differential loads. So there is some merit in getting that sorted.

But I can understand not wanting to touch the front.
