hi , can anyone tell me is the dizzy drive gear can be removed from the camshaft? I have a Chinese import f8a engine which has been setup to fit in a carry ,I have to swap the dizzy housing and change the dizzy drive gear to run the old dizzy on the new imported engine , any help will be appreciated thanks scotty
hi greyghost ,thatks for your reply . unfortunately I cant swap cams as the donor camshaft is out of a real old lj81 f8a engine with the two piece head and I have been advised that the bearing journals wont match with the new one piece head .

have you checked? measure the bearing journals your self. you have nothing to loose.
I've been told many times that "this won't fit, that", and until you check you'll never know. I have proved many to be wrong, its not funny.
and i think you'll find that the gear is pressed into the end of the Cam, it is possible to get it off. but lining it up on the new cam is almost impossible, possible but probably not worth the work.
the other option is to get a cam from a later F8A or even an F10A, or you could swap the head over (more work than its worth, for possibly an inferior head design)
I have compared the cams, I can't really remember but I'm quite certain they were incompatible. the area that the seal runs on is in a different spot. I'll see if I can dig up some bits tomorrow.
The heads are the same aside from the front seal. Though later F10a heads (and presumably yours) have a lump in the exhaust ports to increase the radius of the short turn.
