Just about to buy a second hand manual box for my 2.7l GV.
Mine has done 160,000 and is really noisy
To get bearings replaced is $2300...and that does not include gears if it needs new ones of those.

So Ive found one at a wreckers with 50,000 on it for $1300, $500 to get fitted.
Anyone have an informed opinion on whether this is the best way to go?
I am keeping the car, but the reality is my box has had a very hard life.

Are you trying to tell me you bought a 2006 on Gearbox for a GV for $120? Because I dont believe that. Unless you bought it off a mate or something

Get more quotes for replacement bearings or a second hand box there may be better prices. You shouldn't need new gears.
Gearbox values vary greatly depending on how hard you look for them. Small time, non specific wreckers and enthusiasts with old builds will part with them a lot cheaper than $1300

An XL7 box will bolt up to your engine but you will need to put the Tcase from yours on it if you go with Dougies. If you aren't handy to DIY that will but you back in the $$ though.

Someone else may know if the output setup on the NGV 2.7 transfer is the same or different as the SQ series(??)
