Hi all, found this post when surfing the other night, and seems to be very promising!

http://suzuki-grandvitara.info/cms/content/view/76/66/

"A member of the North Brisbane Suzuki 4x4 Club (Robert) came up with (a cheaper solution for a snorkel)

The Airtec Toyota Hilux (V6) Snorkel fits the Grand Vitara. It's a bolt-on fit. It has the same contures of the body and the A-pillar. It looks great! You have to replace the inlet tube in the inner guard with a flex pipe. It's a perfect fit."

A cheap copy of this exact snorkel can be shipped to your door for $100 here: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/290957057240?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT and all you need is a hole saw, of course, and some flexi pipe.

Hope this helps, and isn't already on here, thought I'd share as I've heard people asking for cheaper alternatives.

Cheers, Sam!

And it look crap sorry. JMO. Snorkel does not line up very well with the window frame. When I had my GV I got the correct one a few months later. Gee that was back around 2005

This option was around years ago, like Bruce said, at least 2005.
I bought a 'kit' from a crowd in SA that used this Hilux body, but they didn't know at the time (& I didn't know either) that it wouldn't fit an ABS equipped car, as the valve body is where the entry into the engine bay wanted to be.
I made my own out of 3" exhaust tube & mandrel bends - was a bitch & I still don't quite like the shape of it, but that is one tricky guard to pillar angle & step out to deal with.

That version in the article does fit the ABS cars though. I bought one for $85 and didn't have to buy any other parts except RV sealant, looks very factory IMO. Inlet goes straight in the same hole as the original airbox intake. Just bigger

As I don't have airbags, that's not a problem for me.. But I just thought I'd post it here and see what you all thought.

Oldschool, did you use the hilux snorkel?

Yep. Hilux v6. It came with a 300mm rubber elbow that went straight onto the existing air box intake. Just abit larger in diameter

I can see the snorkel, and I can see that it doesn't quite match the angle of the a pillar - minor matter, possibly the way it was fitted - but what I would like to see and cannot, is how the lower part conforms to the body work.

A brand new Hilux snorkel or a brand new GV snorkel? If it weren't for the shipping costs I might be interested.

I did some searching - based on your "hilux ebay" - would it be the correct item?

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Snorkel-Kit-Toyota-HiLux165-167-172-176-series-Petrol-97-to-05-Petrol-models-RHS-/290957057240?hash=item43be645cd8

If it is, I should be able to pick up something similar in the US from a company (which I assume is in China), called Wotefusi - shipping out of the US is much easier for me, and if I time it right, I can sometimes get space in a friend's container at no cost.
