Hi All,
I just bought a 2008 Jimny JLX from a dealer "Steve Jarvin Motors Burwood" on Friday. Since Friday just been doing some drives to the city and home on the M4. Today after leaving site, I hear a big clunk and some whirrring as if something in the transmission or gearbox is not engaging. This happens between 1st-3rd gear between 1000-1500 rpm. At first it was just whirrr but then and suddenly there is a huge CLUNK quite notable. I had my mechanic look at it and said the best thing to do is take it back to Steve Jarvin (being only 2 days post purchase)

I havnt called them yet but will tomorrow. Would they cover transmission rebuilding or replacement?!

If they don't, how much money would it cost to repair or replace transmission? Actually, what is better, to get a whole new transmission replaced or get it rebuilt?

Final question, can you guys please recommend a good mechanic in sydney who can supply and install to repair this problem I am having.

I was really looking forward to one of the 4wd trip lessons. So sad.

Not a strong gearbox by all accounts. Second hand units range from $500-1,500 here in QLD. I'd imagine a rebuild would be $2,000+? I'd strongly suggest you return to the dealer as soon as possible and don't leave till you have an agreement as to what will happen from here

i am taking it back on saturday as I dont have time during the week.

Anyways, I am an engineer and I think very worst case scenarios where the dealership wont fix my car.

Any recommended transmission rebuild/repairs mechanics / workshops in Sydney that auszookers recommends? Cheers!
