Hey all.

I purchased a Oricom UHF028 with aerial included.
Since I installed it, i couldn't get much response from anyone and the scan function just repeats continuously.

I went to bribie today and got no response from anyone and couldnt even get a channel.
So when I got home, i bought a new connector from JAYCAR and reterminated the plug end. I managed to get a response from someone nearby but that was it. Nothing for the rest of the trip.

Is the unit shagged? Any pointers on how to test reception?

I'd say it's an aerial issue. Can you try another unit to confirm? I'm happy to have a look if you'd like

I agree most probable is an antenna issue.

Can you post a picture of how you terminated the connector ?

Thanks guys. Ill have to fit another plug and get a photo of the termination for you. I soldered the gold tab on the end and crimped the sheilding down with the clamp(no shielding was touching the conductor)
I figured it was an aerial issue but still the same issue when I terminated the new socket.
The coax is fine and not damaged.
This is my second oricom and both have been the same (different models) the uniden in the old TJ was flawless.

I had a similar issue with my Oricom were the outer shield was loose and not crimped properly but it Rxed okay, just on Tx it squeeled like crazy.
After that was fixed I gained a lot better coverage by linking my bullbar to the chassis and body withy small links.

Got any mates with a spare antenna and cable to try it out?

Not really. Might just bite the bullet and buy another aerial.
Should have returned it before i reterminated haha

Where in brisbane are you based I will have one you can borrow to test with if your not in a rush . A good quality antenna is worth the dollars but only if it's your problem.

Is there any chance you pushed the PTT button on the unit at any stage that the antenna was not connected? Doing so can "burn out" the head unit, learned that the hard way with my previous GME.

Oricom is hands down the best company I have ever dealt with in regards to warranty, you really shouldn't have messed around with it, but there's a good chance if you simply call them and tell them the problems you're having they may send you one out without having to return the original.

What model antenna was it out of interest?

Yeah i spoke with Oricom yesterday and explained the situation. They are sending a replacement
I explained that rather then remove the old one for warranty it was easier to reterminate...his response was "i would have done the same thing"

it was an ANU100. I don't think I pressed the PTT button as I didn't power the unit up until the aerial was connected. I hope it is just the aerial.
